The Old Crown is a very unusual and historic place to stay. Obviously, the building has all the features of a very, very old place (built in the second half of the fourteenth century and now thought to be Birmingham's oldest builting) - the stairs are steep and narrow, floors are uneven, and there are steps everywhere. However, it has been brought up to a very good standard of comfort for today, with a beautiful modern bathroom. We had the room on the first floor at the end of the inn, with views towards both the old library and across the street, where there is currently yet another huge development taking place. Makes you wonder just how much the area around the inn has changed in around 650 plus years. There are very old metal windows, but there is also secondary glazing, so the room is not draughty or especially noisy (there is some traffic noise inevitably, as the inn is on a busy road, but overnight it was quiet). The room was large, the bed comfy, the decor in keeping with the history of the place with some antique furniture, but very comfortable overall. We noticed that there were very frequent buses passing during the daytime so, although we were just visiting a friend's studio in Digbeth, it looked like it would be easy to get in and out of the city centre by public transport, as there are bus stops nearby. I would stay here again for an event in Birmingham. Somewhere a bit different, with a lot of history. Didn't see any ghosts though! Another time, we would probably have dinner there too, as the menu seems very good.

It would have been nice to have had the option of breakfast at the inn, but we found a great cafe (and retro clothing/vinyl/comic book store) round the back of the Old Library, so breakfast wasn't an issue. Although the inn doesn't have its own parking, Trinity car park is a short walk away and offers 24 hour parking. Unfortunately, it was cash or parking app only (no cards!) which was a bit of a surprise, as you get used to having a card payment option everywhere these days.

- Ideal location for my purpose of stay - Great value for money (ÂŁ50) - The pub itself is nice (good choice of beers as well) I've heard that the food is nice but sadly, I didn't get the chance to try them due to the delay in arriving into Birmingham. - Loved the wooden beams and features. - Fun, lively pub :) - The shared bathroom was absolutely fine (I was a little apprehensive beforehand but I didn't need to). - Shower was fine - 24 hour access - I was leaving around 7:30 am (checkout up to 10:00 am) so just left the keys in the room as advised, no issue - The staff showed me to my room, showed the exits etc and seemed friendly :)

- It was a little noisy BUT this was to be expected as your staying above a pub (take earplugs like I did and the problem is solved!). I am a really light sleep but with earplugs I had no issues with noise whatsoever. I was told the music tends to stop around midnight on a Friday (don't know if this was accurate as I was asleep!) - The location is great for the city centre but it is on a busy main road with traffic and other pubs/nightclubs (not that I experienced any issues with traffic and/or traffic noise) - The mattress was OK - I could feel the springs but it wasn't too uncomfortable as I clearly still managed to get a good night sleep. I would recommend to management that perhaps they look at the mattresses in the foreseeable future.

The Old Crown is a pleasure to stay in. The manager is a great guy. Friendly, helpful and always happy to stop for a chat, though obviously juggling a lot of daily responsibility. Staying is always fun. The staff are great and facilities. Attended my first event there Blur vs Oasis. Special shout out to the bouncer. What a great chap. So friendly and helped the night as went on my own. Great friendly crowd and managed a selfie with ' Liam Gallagher ' Hoping they put the Oasis tribute on again sometime (they were brilliant) and have some 80s synth/retro dj nights or a Depeche Mode tribute on sometime. I need an excuse to come back more. Keep up the great work guys. You do Birmingham and the historical old crown proud 👏

Nothing to complain about. Perfect place/stay

If you love history, charm, and a touch of nostalgia, this hotel is a perfect choice. While it may be old, it is immaculately maintained, offering a level of cleanliness and care that rivals modern establishments. Every corner is filled with fascinating antiques, making it feel more like a museum than a hotel, each piece telling a story of a bygone era. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with classic furnishings, vintage décor, and a unique character that you simply won’t find in contemporary hotels. The staff is incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable about the history of the place, adding to the overall experience. Despite its age, the hotel offers all the necessary comforts, with cozy rooms, comfortable beds, and well-kept facilities. If you appreciate history and character, this is a must-visit destination. it was a lifetime experience!

Great location for a gig at XOYO. Comfortable bed, nice sheets and towels. Room 8 is really spacious and has a great shower. Lots of old features which was cool.

Wait of about 20 minutes to check in as the manager was doing something else. There is noise in the evening, which is expected considering it’s a pub and didn’t bother us because we went to bed late. Our room was at the front of the property, so quite noisy with weekday traffic in the morning. Check out is at 10 though so didn’t bother us. For the pub, the food wasn’t great. Too many seasonings and not well cooked. No lighter options or something that isn’t fried. The prices aren’t bad but I didn’t eat most of my food. A bit studenty.

The building is full of character down to the age of the building. The room and bathroom were a good size, with adequate facilities. I was at a gig at the O2 Institute which was a 3 min walk away. The Bullring Shopping centre is just about 10 to 15 min walk away also. Airport bus drops off and picks up within a few steps away. On arrival, staff gave us a tour of the property for return after hours. Staff were friendly and the food was really tasty. Excellent value for money.

The mattress on my bed was a little uncomfortable as I could feel the springs. I still managed to sleep though. Could be noisy at weekends when pub is busy and it's located on a main street. Window in bedroom didn't close due to being warped, however it was in keeping with style of old building

Lovely old inn, makes you feel like a 19th c. traveller, except with all modern conveniences. Very clean and just a wonderful feeling inside. Felt safe. It snowed when I was there and I was very warm inside. Sharing the bathroom was not a problem -- it was close and very modern, with an excellent shower. There was a sink in my room, which was very appreciated. Nice view from the window, very Dickensian, and the room was quite spacious.

The spring mattress could have been more comfortable, and it would have been handy to have a chair in my room to put things on (but there was a small wardrobe and a hook on the door).

Stayed in the hotel / pub because it was so old and looked great. Room was large and the bed was very comfortable. I booked one night and really enjoyed it. Plan a return visit and stay for longer. Really cool too. Food available in the evening in pub downstairs. I have stayed in pubs before and the noise has been a nightmare. Its unreasonable to expect no noise from a pub - I certainly had no concerns with noise during my stay. I was also able to leave my bag for a few hours - really important for travellers using public transport and wanting to explore without lugging bags everywhere.

Wasn't an issue but breakfast is not available. Im sure food can be picked up locally. All in all - no complaints.

It’s the second time we have stayed here. The wooden beams throughout are enchanting. The building really is beautiful it’s quite a wonderful thing to have it still standing after all this time. We stayed in the room where the old crown sign protrudes put on the front and it was to be able to sit on the bench and drink our morning coffee and watch the world go by. We will for sure be back we love this place.

As you would expect with a old property it has many creaks and unleveled floors the stairs to downstairs are quite steep so just be mindful of that.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The bedroom was exceptionally clean. Two shared bathrooms available so I didn't have any problem with having to share. The bathroom was kept exceptionally clean and the shower is very good. Very good value for money. I would definitely stay again.

There is music played from the courtyard just below the room up until about 11/11:30 pm (this was on a Monday) but after that it was quiet and I had a good night's sleep without any disturbances. The bed wasn't the comfiest but I still had a good nights sleep.
