It is a three mile walk from the hostel to Devils Dyke, probably the most stunningly beautiful and peaceful part of the South Downs way..In the other direction it takes around an hour to walk down to the river, where you can join the Downs Link or walk to pretty villages, su h as Steyning, Bramber or Upper Beeding. We especially enjoyed talking to the other guests, who were all extremely interesting and friendly. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. One of the best aspects of being in a rural location are the small unpredictable events which makes hosteling fun, for instance, the group of six young goats which has escaped and were frolicking on the path, or the plums and blackberries we found The hostel was great, there are stunning views, especially from the balcony and the hostel has lawns behind it and overlooks a field at the front
There was nothing to dislike which could be changed, but the walks in either direction can seem quite long, if you're older and have creaky knees.

The environment was very warm and friendly, everything was exceptionally clean, and the kitchen was fully equipped. The dining area, lounge, and reading room were incredibly pleasant, with a stunning view. Additionally, the availability of high-temperature hot water for the comfort of guests made my two-day stay truly enjoyable.
In my opinion, if each room includes a small drawer with a lock for each guest, and hot and cold water in the washing room is provided through a mixer tap rather than separate faucets, as well as tea and instant coffee being available as part of the service and included in the accommodation cost, it would create a more enjoyable stay for travelers.

staff are lovely and accommodating, they also have good knowledge of local area. Food was of good standard and big breakfast variety. lots of kitchen faculties to cook own food. good parking. peaceful and rural. amazing walks nearby. There are some older children groups from schools while I stayed, and they children were really well behaved and friendly - the teachers should be proud of them.
not applicable. for a YHA in rural area its great. they have something for everyone, including camping. nothing I didn't like. Wifi in room is an issue and I had to do some webinars, but I sat in a quiet area of the YHA. If I could recommend anything it is to have a wifi or quite space where wifi is so people can sit on laptops. apart from that all good.

Honestly, everything was so lovely. It's in the beautiful filing chalk hills near Shoreham-by-Sea. My husband, children, and I took a long long walk before the late 5pm check-in. We were lucky because it was a lovely day. The cafe is really lovely. It's the living area, and there are panoramic views of the rolling hills from the wall to floor windows with big comfy armchairs and tables for eating. My kids enjoyed playing the board games, which was such a lovely change from them gaming. I couldn't believe how clean and spacious and comfortable the family room was! Unlike Premier Inn, you can open the window and breath the lovely sea air, but it was also toastie warm, so I made sure to turn off the radiator before sleeping (like to sleep with the window open.) the bedding was all really clean and very good quality. Very good mattresses, too! I was surprised how brilliant it was, to be honest. We were really comfortable. Shared toilets and showers, bit that was no problem. Everything was very clean. We had a corner sink in the room. Oh, the food is good, too. It's not cheap, though. A family meal cost the same as it would in a pub or restaurant. There's a kitchen you can use, though, so if you bring your own food, very economical.
5pm check-in time is a little late to be honest. We were allowed to sit in the cafe from 2pm, mind you. Luckily for us, it wasn't raining, so we had a long walk before checking in.

Nice communal sitting and dining room. Clean, good kitchen. Great games and book cupboard. Amazing breakfasts. Beautiful location. Clever, responsibly staff. Bright room.
A bit of a smell of damp in our room and signs of damp in the corridor. Plastic mattresses on the beds made me sweat at night. Showers are dingy. Difficult to find the entrance to the building in the dark. No sign in kitchen to say oven has an on/off switch to flip before you use it.

Brilliant place to stay ... Cafe is open from 7.30am to 8 pm ... serving great food .... If you are staying there, there is also a self catering kitchen. I only stayed a couple of days, but hope to go back next year for longer and enjoy the walking / hanging out ! It is a dark sky reserve !
Wifi is a bit dodgy / weak !

Well equipped. And great to either order food or cook your own. Great location too. Slept well. Games for kids to use were great. Friendly staff.
I couldnt find anywhere to dry clothes outside on a line to dry swimming towels etc. Some more freezer space for freezer blocks (lots of people travelling with food)

A really nice hostel with a lovely vibe. A bit more like an old-school hosteling experience rather than a new and shiney inpersonal place as I find some hostels these days. Staff were super friendly, lots of different ages staying, a good kitchen and social space. Beds were comfy and drinks on offer!
I'd say the whole place could do with a deep clean

Stunning location and surroundings. Nice staff and facilities were fine.
Didn't sleep very well due to someone snoring loudly, but that's the risk when staying in a dorm, not a reflection on the accommodation. Parking was very limited the nights I stayed but managed to squeeze my car in.

Peaceful location, friendly staff, nice size rooms, plenty of amenities.
Paper thin pillow, no plug socket near bed, no WiFi in dorms. Last one usually doesn't bother me but since the hostel is quite far out, there's not much cell signal so you can't really use mobile data.
