Great location, and the hotel is lovely and clean and the staff very friendly. We slept very well especially with the aid of ear plugs because of the traffic noise. The room temperature was perfect for us. The stairs were a bit of a problem for me as I have bad knees but we were aware of this before we arrived. Hpwever, I was particularly disappointed with the breakfast choices. My husband loved the cooked breakfast but I've always just enjoyed a bit of yoghurt and fresh fruit. I ordered the yoghurt, fresh berries and granola on the first morning and was shocked when served a dish of tinned strawberries in syrup. A jug of very runny and sour yoghurt and very dry and floury granola. I couldn't eat any of it. My second choice of marmalade and toast wasn't improved much when I was told they had no marmalade, only jam. One of the pleasures for me of staying in a hotel is rhe breakfast and diving into the fresh fruits, pastries and cheese/hams. Sadly there were none of these. Also, the coffee machine was broken the whole of our week and we didn't have a decent cup.of coffee here. Because of the experience with the breakfast, we never ate at The Stag in the evenings but chose to eat at the many eateries within walking distance, which were all lovely.

This is a comfy Hotel, lovely clean room, modern bathroom. Food was good and Staff extremely helpful and attentive. The only complaint I have is that you are provided with a key fob that opens doors from the upstairs bed rooms into the bar area, then allows you to open the outside door. BUT as it's dog Friendly and I needed to take the Dog out at 7.15am I was shocked that the door from the rooms to the bar are locked from the otherside until 7.30am...so IF there was a fire, then what you could not get out! ...I was very un nerved by this.

Central location with good facilities. Lovely breakfast.
I was surprised that we booked 2 nights in The Stag but ended up in The Mailman next door, I'm not sure why? I received a generic email a few days after booking advising the name change to The Stag & Mailman but didn't register that we would be in The Mailman. It was nice enough but not what I had booked. Some confusion re check in time: the terms & conditions said 2pm, I rang to check 3pm was ok and was advised that check in was 4pm. They kindly offered to put our room as priority for cleaning so we should be ok for 3pm but when we arrived we were told our room was the last on the list and would be another 15 mins.

we loved our stay here, the car parking was easy to find and everything clearly signposted. the gentleman that checked us in is a true asset to your team - helped me with inputting my car parking and was very attentive when checking us in, very chatty and made us feel very welcome. being personally shown to our room was also a huge bonus for us as we hate just being handed keys and told where to go! the room was lovely and clean and extremely modern given it’s a grade two listed building. the bed was very comfortable which led to a perfect nights sleep and it had all the amenities we needed for our short getaway. breakfast was absolutely superb and service from the host was excellent - you should be very proud of your team, i couldn’t fault them at all! we enjoyed drinks in the bar in the evening which were also fairly priced, the bar was small but quaint and we felt very welcomed and at home! the only downside was that we could hear music until 11pm which would’ve been fine had the bass not have been quite so high! after a long day, we wanted an early-ish evening so i personally couldn’t relax until it had stopped.

All staff were genuinely lovely, they were welcoming, happy and just well …lovely. We bought along 2 four legged furry friends, we usually leave them them at home but when we went to the room, there were two beds, two bowls and two paper bags with dogs treats. This was such a thoughtful gesture. Food was delicious, we wanted to watch the six nations and they accommodated that without protest. We discovered extra walks in Lyndhurst , a great surprise, we usually only drive Lyndhurst to get to other parts of New Forest but this is why we wanted to explore. The property is very central and ideally located. Thank you The Stag and Mailman’s Arms
The shower was unusually small in area, difficult to move in 🤔

Had a very nice weekend stay here. Great location right on Lyndhurst High Street. Stayed in a very comfortable and spacious room. Very warm room, nice hot showers, comfy beds. Cooked breakfast was great quality and always piping hot. Dinner in the evening was very nice too. Staff were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. The stay was fantastic value for money. Car park isn't obvious to find, so make sure you check their website for the alternative postcode to use to find the parking at the rear. Bonus of an electric car charger for guests was appreciated.
Only point I'd note is continental breakfast option was limited. It was cereal, toast or I think granola & yogurt was on the menu. A few pastries and fruit would be appreciated. But certainly didn't detract from a great place in a great location - would definitely recommend

Room was comfortable, spotlessly clean, excellently equipped , and lovely! The on suite bathroom was also clean and well equipped. Both provided a comfortable temperature. Breakfast was delicious and the dining area spacious. I would like to mention our wonderful waitress Melissa, who also waited on our table the evening before when we had a really good meal. She showed professionalism at all times, was welcoming, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Everyone working at The Stag was so helpful and welcoming, which created a relaxing atmosphere and happy guests! The location was perfect ! We will be back, Our thanks to all the staff

The breakfast was very good, as were the restaurant meals we had. My small plate Sunday roast was absolutely delicious and the size of meal was perfect for a meal as a little person. It meant I didn't have to waste any of it 😊 We stayed in room one and it was huge and almost felt like a suite. The shower room was very good and the bed was very comfortable. It was nice to be so close to the lovely shops and cafes/restaurants in Lyndhurst.
Occasionally the waitress got things wrong for breakfast, but she was very apologetic and swiftly resolved the situation. The road was rather noisy but that has to be expected as the Stag is on the High Street. Earplugs were thoughtfully provided

Exceptionally comfortable bed - we loved the style of the Stag and the room. The food is excellent - highly recommend the venison pie. Check in was very professional. Breakfast is very nice but perhaps a couple more options like eggs Benedict and croissants would be nice.
Very poor coffee at breakfast but we appreciated the cappuccino/late on day 2. Breakfast. Unfortunately our shower (room 2) was poor. Water flow was not great (understandable in an old listed building) but it was either far too cold or far too hot.

Although the room was classed as 'cosy', it was quite tight for space in the bedroom area, however the ensuite was spacious; after all it is a listed building so just be mindful of this, as it wouldn't put us off staying in the same room again. Some nice touches in the room of with history, toilettes and tea / coffee facilities. All areas were lovely and clean. We were a little daunted that when we arrived we were warned there was a band playing the evening and when we got in our room on the 1st floor there were ear plugs, however the music stopped at 11pm and then only a quiet conversional murmur - we slept well but others might not if they are lighter sleeps so male them aware when you book if it is a problem. The breakfast was pleasant and the full English 'Stag' breakfast was very tasty. Cereal and juice was help yourself and you just needed to ask for tea / coffee to be served to you as and when required or topped up. Nice restaurant area. All the staff we meet were very welcoming and made our stay enjoyable. I'd have no hesitation to stay their again. Many thanks.
We were overall happy but others may wish to be aware of certain rooms and their size and possible noise from the ground floor up to 11pm if there is a band playing. The car park gets busy when the bar has events on, so be mindful you might not get parked straight away. And remember to sign your car in inside for your stay, not just sign it in.
