Views are incredible from the balcony. Staff were friendly. Bed was comfy and pretty big. Shared bathrooms were clean and there was never a queue. The restaurant downstairs was a little pricy but well worth it, the food and views were amazing. Overall we had a very relaxing stay
Breakfast was a little disappointing, there wasn't even any fresh fruit. It was also just in the lounge which only had one small table rather than in the restaurant downstairs. Location isn't ideal if you don't have a car. It's 30 min walk from the bus stop and 45 min walk from the nearest convenience store, but they do have a shuttle if they have enough staff to run it.

Everything was clean and fresh, including shared bathroom and toilet. The food was fantastic, breakfast perfectly adequate (help yourself), View from the window, and the balcony, was exceptional. Beer from a local brewery was really good! In all, fantastic value for money!
For the price everything met or exceeded expectations. No crayfish available!!! I was disappointed I couldn't have crayfish chowder (which they are known for), but tried the seafood chowder which was also very good.

This old pub is in a great location.....views, sun, garden bar. Our room was a corner balcony and had the first floor views. Great when on a motorbike....one stop shop. The place is tidy but it is an old pub after all....with shared bathroom. Maybe it could do with a little TLC in places but with food and a beer onsite, it's hard to beat. The breakfast is great.
Nothing really, as having stayed there several times, it's known to me and I like what it offers.

Location is awesome with fantastic views from the balcony. This is definitely old school pub accommodation: comfortable nights sleep, clean shared toilet and showering facilities. Breakfast is available upstairs which is a bonus when leaving early.
Unfortunately we had room directly above fridge compressor on a warm night (so had to have window open) not a deal breaker but was a bit of an inconvenience. This would not be a problem if window was shut.

We liked the rooms with a beautiful views from the rooms and balcony also the room had comfy beds, showers had good water pressure really appreciate as well, spoilt with all the breakfast choices a delicious breakfast banquet. The location was close to shops and walks along the beach was just magical. The food was excellent and prices were reasonable, good size meals which you did not have to wait long as it was a busy evening. The staff were excellent.
There was nothing to dislike

A lovely old traditional hotel with a very good dining room and bar. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony looking out over the bay and sitting at the picnic tables in the warm sun. We could have stayed longer.
Wifi was very weak in our room; perhaps a few more routers would help. Nobody tidied up the lounge or restocked the breakfast supplies on our second morning. There was no milk for cereal.

The room was fantastic with a view you could not beat. Facilities were down the hall and never felt awkward walking to them. The lounge was well stocked and welcoming as well, especially since it rained most of my time there.
The beds (two fulls pushed together to make a king) felt like it had gone flat. It was a little further out of town than what I normally like.

Stunning location and terrific value for money. Although the rooms are a bit dated, place was very clean, staff extremely helpful, beds comfy and perfect for a quick nights accommodation on a work trip - especially loved the free continental breakfast. Pub food downstairs is great, highly recommend will stay again!

Had a twin room upstairs at the front of the older Pub Hotel overlooking the wraparound verandah that looked out over the ocean. Great views from the room. Only two rooms in this front position with hallway in between with door that leads onto verandah. Small table and chairs available on the verandah to sit and chill out. Would have preferred the queen room that had its own door leading onto the verandah but unfortunately it was booked. Other rooms down hallway. Room was smallish but had comfortable beds. Heater but no air con. Large window could be opened to let in the sea breeze. Shared bathroom toilet facilities clean and tidy. Has a shared lounge with TV and board games. Tea and coffee available at all times in this room. Also has a self-service continental breakfast included in the price in this lounge area. Very reasonable budget price to stay. Downstairs is a nice upmarket restaurant, bar and garden bar that is popular. Was lucky to get the last table available booked for a meal on a Monday night. Excellent meal options but pricey. Great place to stay for original NZ old school hotel accommodation.
Air con or a fan in the room. Observing a Female staff member viciously throwing a knife at seagulls who invaded her lunch plate when she herself had walked away from the plate.

Knowin the age of the Hotel, we were extremely surprised at the way the property had been upgraded to cater for guests. Bathrooms, although shared were immaculate. Beds and linen excellent and food just wonderful. The staff were so accommodating. Very proud to show "Home town" to overseas guests.
Access to rooms might be tricky for older guests carrying luggage upstairs to rooms- we managed ok.
