We stayed here because the price was discounted for a larger room and it has convenient parking (£15 charge), with breakfast included in the price, and we needed to be in Winchester to meet friends. The location for the High Street is excellent. Reception is good. We were very happy with our stay. The room and bed is most comfortable. The shower is fantastic. Everything is clean. Kettle and Nespresso in the room and complimentary water. TV. Good lighting. The staff are helpful. The restaurant buffet breakfast is excellent, with a varied choice. I would recommend it.
Without the discounted price, and according to the website prices when booking direct, we could not have afforded to stay and would not have looked at The Winchester further. That is obviously pertaining to us though. Also only a small advisory to be aware of: When the car park directly next to the hotel is full, you can get a small map from Reception to find the other car park, which is also attached to the hotel, but you have to drive a few of the town's streets to get to the entrance. That's ok if there are 2 of you in the car. It does also state this in the information when you book, so just be aware if you are an anxious driver.

Lovely appointed room with lots of character. We enjoyed complimentary drinks and a buffet breakfast. The buffet had plenty of variety and was delicious! The garden was also picturesque and a lovely spot for afternoon drinks. Very popular.
It was tricky to get luggage to room due to the amount of stairs but Understand this is typical of this type of building and it's age is it's charm. Parking is an issue especially if there is a function on during the day and there is no drop off zone at the front of the premises Plus there is also an additional 15pound charge a day if you can get a spot out the back.

A fine old building in a fantastic location with good decor and with nice furnishing. Breakfast was enjoyable with good quality ingredients and the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The hotel garden was a real surprise, such a great place to relax and unwind after a busy day sightseeing.
We stayed in a garden room and were disturbed a couple of nights by noisy guests still sat in the garden late into the night. The hotel did provide free ear plugs which was a nice little touch. Not a big problem, but perhaps some signs on the garden tables reminding guests of the need to not become too noisy might help.

The location was very convenient and near downtown. This is a historic hotel, the garden is extremely beautiful and a beautiful way to enjoy the evening outside. The sitting areas and bar are spacious and very comfortable. The staff is excellent.
The first room didn’t have a wardrobe to hang your clothes nor a place to open your luggage except the floor. We were moved to the Jane Austen room, which was beautiful and spacious, had an area to hang your clothes, as well as a bench to open your suitcases. The view from the windows is a parking lot and two dumpsters. There are beautiful drapes, so it camouflages this area if left closed.

Central location with parking albeit costing £15 per night Hearty well cooked breakfast Comfortable room Friendly staff Garden for evening drink
We chose to have dinner at the hotel having seen and chosen favourite dishes from the menu on the hotel website offering a deal price of £78 for two to include a bottle of wine. However at the table we were given a totally different and reduced menu. We were told that the menu had been changed. We were then told that some dishes carried a supplement although there was no mention of this on the menu nor on the website. Why can't the hotel keep their website upto date especially when promoting offers and asterisk dishes carrying a supplement ? Very disappointing as were our meals taken in a very chilly air conditioned and quiet restaurant.

I was pleasantly surprised by this charming hotel, perfect for a one-night stay. I paid a very reasonable rate for a twin room with breakfast included. The entrance hall, bar, and dining areas were all beautifully presented, and the sunny garden was a real highlight. The staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming, especially the receptionist and dining team. We had dinner at the hotel, which was both delicious and well-priced. Our room was their cheapest ‘basic’ rooms, but it was clean, spacious, and more than comfortable for our needs. The only minor downside was that, on a warm night with the windows open, the nearby car park was a little noisy with people coming and going. Breakfast offered a great variety of options, and on such a hot day, we enjoyed it in the garden which was lovely, made even more delightful by the presence of a friendly local ginger cat named Matisse. If I return to Winchester, I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else.
A couple of loose fixtures in our room but nothing of concern

It was great to find a room for a Saturday night on the Friday... Room was very clean, beautifully comfortable bed with crisp bedlinen. Good range of options for breakfast, and very good scrambled eggs - difficult to do. Thank you.
I do think that for a hotel charging £166 a night as the 'reduced', 'special offer ' price that the paint job on the ceiling should have been finished and the whole ceiling the same colour. This was even more the case given that the ceiling was pure white. Instead, there was some painting on the ceiling round where an emergency light had been installed. This was a beige colour and detracted from the quality appearance of the rest of the room

Hotel is in a good location and garden is beautiful and could have been used after breakfast for coffee or for residents not eating but no staff around. Missed opportunity.
Reception staff did not offer any assistance with bags and I struggled to find my room or engage in any conversation offering a map of Winchester and not tell me anything about dining room and offers the Hotel may have or the WIFi . Didn’t use it so missed out on an opportunity. Staff at breakfast didn’t engage in any conversation. Buffet breakfast was good but again staff should be more attentive. Reception on checking out didn’t ask me anything.

We’ve stayed here several times. It’s convenient for sightseeing in the city and for shops and restaurants. The overnight parking fee has gone up to £15 but it’s safe and easy to access from the hotel. The one way system is a bit confusing if you don’t know Winchester. We had a super, huge, fish and chip dinner in the restaurant and prices were comparable with restaurants in the High St. Staff are friendly and beds very comfortable. Rooms tastefully furnished and clean. Personally I’d prefer a shower as getting into a bath is a bit precarious for older folk. However, they did provide an anti/slip mat.

Great location. Very helpful staff. Good breakfast and nice bar area. Garden was very pleasant and a relaxing sun trap. We had an issue with the bathroom. This was raised with the maintenance team and sorted very quickly. Very short walk into the historical centre of Winchester.
We dropped lucky with parking, as someone leaving the front car park just as we arrived. We were aware of parking to the rear of Royal Winchester Hotel, but hadn't seen any clear instructions, so unable to locate when we initially arrived. So we went around the block and found the front car park.
