Almost everything, location near to everywhere, can walk to the imago to the south west, and can walk to there Todak Waterfront to the north east. I almost choose other inn which located near Gaya street market, but I glad I choose Escape Backpackers instead, because if I choose the other, going to Imago will become too far. And there is kitchen for cooking, there is hanger for my wet clothes, there is fridge to put your food, there is breakfast in which they menu changed everyday. There is curtain for some privacy. The staff called auntie, is very friendly and helpful.

Nothin much. But maybe they can considered to add soap and shampoo. And I also did not get blanket while the air conditioner was set quite cold.

Great place to stay in KK, excellent value for money in Borneo! Breakfast was amazing, and different everyday (noodles and toasts on day 1, rice, pancakes ❤️, and toasts on day 2) Bed was comfy with privacy curtains, a light and an outlet, AC was working well, there is space to hang your towel and clothes, and the room was big Nice common area (though a bit small maybe, but you do what you can with the space you have) Toilets were separate from the showers (rare in Asia, so that was really nice!) The owner was super nice, friendly and helpful! I missed my bus so I arrived a day later and I was able to change the days of my booking even though it was non refundable, so thank you so much for that!!

The light in my bed wasn’t working well (really really low intensity) Didn’t get hot water in the shower (but it was still warmish and it was hot enough in KK so that wasn’t much of a problem) Our room was just next to the common area so if people are noisy that could be annoying (but wasn’t a problem for me as I went to sleep late and woke up early so it was always quiet when I was sleeping)

It was my greatest dormitory experience ! People were amazing. each day was different from the other one. It was really the big family feeling for me ! My stay was filled of laughs, stories and alcohol !!! Auntie Fay, Judith and Valerie were so kind, amazing and patient<3. Every other guest had something different to bring and to offer in every conversation. The hostel offers some good deals for activities. You will Got a lot of stuff to do : you will be able to get lost in the jungle, battle with a jellyfish under the water, get drunk with an old uncle , chasing sunsets in Kota Kinabalu with a japanese oppa and a crazy girl, sharing some chips with an old Yakuza member (haha he wasn't in Yakuza for real... Too bad) etc.... There is also one crazy cat and one lazy cat to pet. A lot of memories in a so little tiny time. I didn't want to go back. Kota Kinabalu forever in my heart because of theses amazing people.

The lady owner was very nice and helpful. Good location, overall cosy environment in the living room and kitchen. Nice varied breakfast, changed everyday that we were there. Beds are in small cocoons you can close with a curtain and you have a plug and lamp which feels Very comfortable.

The second part of the hostel has a smoking area which is not separated enough from the rest of the living room and the smell can be quite pungent sometimes for non smokers despite the place being clean overall and we could see the staff were paying attention to keeping it clean. A simple air freshener or something would be better for everyone. The beds spaces measure 1.85cm. I know it because that's my height and I was touching both ends head to toe. Taller people might have some issues if they sleep straight

The woman in charge was extremely helpful. She had a lot of suggestions about what to do in the area and she even sat down with me for a while to plan my days in Borneo since I was only able to stay there for a short time but I wanted to do a lot of activities. She gave me the contact information to another extremely helpful woman who could help me to book the trek to the summit of Mount Kinabalu last minute.

Even though the staff was very helpful and kind, I found it a bit weird that they didn't tell us when another girl in our room got bedbugs in her bed.. I heard it from a girl who was just about to change room because of the bedbugs. I would have prefered it if the staff told all of us in the room.

Great location and overall a pleasant, safe, and comfortable experience. The staff take you in as family and go out of their way to accommodate your needs. I (like many of us, I imagine), came to Kota Kinabalu first on my trip to Malaysian Borneo and the owner/staff provided an incredible amount of information and advice for exploring KK, the surrounding areas, and destinations all over the island and neighboring countries. If you come in with any kind of holes in your itinerary, she's sure to fill them with excellent suggestions and more. I only stayed one night but it felt like the hospitality you'd get after a month of living with the family.

Most of the attractions are outside of Kota Kinabalu so I'm disappointed I couldn't chill and spend more time here

Location was great – next to many eateries, massage, bars, markets and waterfront. Breakfast was different each day and varied from local fare (nasi goreng, mee goreng) to international foods (breads, pancakes). Hosts were friendly and helpful, and it had all the basic amenities for a really good price. Great place to meet other backpackers too.

There was a mixup with the booking at first. We booked 3 beds in a 4 person mixed dorm room, but upon arrival we were told those rooms were full and we had to put up with a 8 person room. But hosts quickly and very nicely fixed the mistake by opening up a separate room for us which was nice. It would be good to make sure that the listing on the website (booking.com) is accurate and up to date before allowing more bookings in the future.

Privacy curtains! The hostel appeared to be pretty clean and there was breakfast included every morning. It’s pretty quiet

I checked in pretty late but the person at reception never told me the code to get into the hostel. I was locked out before finally another guest told me the code. There’s one North American shower and one bucket shower

the stay was good and we barely stay here. The owner and all the staff is so kind. Once, it was 11pm and we needed a pharmacy, so we asked her and she drove us there, waiting for us etc! Last day, we had the checkout in the morning but the flight the next stay, so we came back to the hostel to chill a bit in the afternoon and she let us stay in the room, she prepared 3 more beds just to us in order to feel comfortable. So kind and we very appreciated it!

The owner was fantastic! It felt like a home away from home. She looked after my during my stay here and helped me more than I could ask for. She cooked (a free!) breakfast every morning and would always check in on you to make sure you’re doing okay, along with telling you all about thing such as bus time tables, events happening close by and food recommendations. A great place, very homely, but made incredible by the owner. Thank you so much!
