We stayed at Hostel Co-EDO after landing at Narita Airport at 8:20 pm. We didn’t expect such a long line at immigration, so we ended up arriving close to midnight. Despite the late hour, the owner (we assume) was still waiting for us, which was such a kind and thoughtful gesture. The location is excellent — perfect for exploring the charming town on foot. We loved being able to walk around, come back for a quick rest, and head out again easily. The room was impressively clean — honestly, we were amazed. Though small, it was very well designed and had everything we needed: a clean shower, a Japanese-style toilet, hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, towels, and even a comb. The air conditioning worked great, and there was also a fan provided. Plus, plenty of plugs to charge our devices — a small but very appreciated detail!

If there’s one downside, it would be the bed and pillows. The mattress felt a bit old as they’re not firm and wasn’t very comfortable, and the pillows were quite thin.

Amazing hostel! We stayed the first two nights in a double bed, and then in the bunk bed dormitories. The dorms have lockers able to fit one large check-in suitcase. There are shared washrooms for the dorms, but everything is very clean. Free wifi, hairdryers, towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpastes, and combs were provided. There is also a shared kitchen, common area, and terrace for guests to enjoy. While no breakfast is provided, you can make tea and coffee in the kitchen, and the nearest 7/11 is a 3 minute walk away. The hostel sported shoji doors, so you could hear guests through the wall, but we ultimately had no issues sleeping as quiet hours are set in place. Ken was a wonderful and hardworking host. On the first night, we ended up loving both Sawara and the hostel so much we decided to stay an extra three nights! There is no doubt that Ken’s hospitality and kindness made our stay even better. He is also very smart and patient, able to understand much of our English. We had a great time here 🙂

Great location, good kitchen for use, wonderful outdoor and indoor lounge areas. Sleeping rooms have air conditioning. It was easy to walk to the Sawara Float Museum (highly recommended) and several temples and shrines. The eel restaurant across from the hostel walkway entrance is really good. I didn't rent a bicycle, but the rates for rental are very low.

The common areas can get quite hot during the warm months. They don't offer breakfast, but tea is free and plentiful in the kitchen. It's easy enough to bring your own food for breakfast.

This is one of the most beautiful hostels we've stayed at in Japan. The rooms are impeccably clean, the shower is fantastic, and the common area with a shared kitchen is perfect. The host is incredibly friendly and even surprised me with a little birthday concert on his grand piano.

Great location, easy walking distance to train station and historic old town. SPOTLESSLY clean. Owner is a wonderfully kind, hospitable, and knowledgeable. One of the nicest hotelier you will ever meet. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended

Warm and wholesome environment (super nice host!), great shower and communal spaces! Also good having a kitchen available. Convenient location as well.

Walls/doors are quite thin so you do hear outside hallway/neighbours during the night.

No breakfast provided but the staff were nice enough to recommend a nice cafe nearby for breakfast. We were also able to leave our luggage outside of checkin and checkout times, no problemo

Walls are thin so you can easily hear people talking in the room next door.

I was comfortable and quiet for a hostel. We had our own en suite bathroom and shower. Nie facilities. Close to the train station and the scenic Sawara river walk.

I had to wear slippers inside but that is the Japanese way of doing things. The walls felt thin because I oould hear neighbors noise next door.

Location was good, 15 min walk from the train station and about 20 min walk to city center. Room was very clean and comfy though have access to 2 power outlet per bed.

There is only two showers, one for female and one for male.
