The shared facilities and our room were very clean. Shoes are to be removed before entering the main lobby - there were clear instructions in English and easy to use lockers. We took advantage of the laundry room - they were easy to use and washing was free! The onsen and locker rooms were very nice and clean and not too busy in the early morning (when our jetlagged bodies were awake!). The location was great for exploring the nearby park, gardens, and market. It was also close to restaurants, and the Kanazawa station. This was one of our favorite places to stay on our trip to Japan.

The hotel is beyond expectation. Been to so many hotels but the breakfast here is one of the best in terms of Japanese cuisines. The hotel also has so many amazing amenities with free noodle and popsicles at night for guests. The location is also great, within walking distance to Kanazawa castle park and other shrines and temples.
The staff still requires better training and more japanese hospitality omotenashi おもてなし. They were professional but lack the true care of a service provider. When I was there, there was a snow storm, I tried to reserve taxi and the taxi company but the staff said no taxi would come. I insisted them to call and the taxi did came. One of the staff even told me to take the bus with my luggage to the station instead in the middle of the snow storm...

Peaceful and traditional Japanese style hotem Amazing location, onsen and bathroom facilities, plenty of options, and amenities. Free laundry machines (dryer is 100yen for 20 minutes) in both the laundry room and inside the women's SPA. Everyone was super nice, friendly, and helpful. The breakfast was something out of this world. Imagine a high-quality japanese + Western breakfast buffet... everything from fruits, breads, sushi, tempura to matcha and coffee lattes, juices, etc! The breakfast was crowded, so we had to line up, but their waiting system works well and it ended being 12-15min wait time. It's not a small hotel, so you will often bump into people here and there. The cool thing is that everyone wears their kimono and walks bare feet.. We also loved the free stuff they gave out during the day, such as Yakult, Popsicles, and Soba at night. Great great addition and makes you want to hang out at the hotel. 👍🏻 We tried to extend our stay, but they were already sold out. Too bad, now we need to return soon! :)
Everything was absolutely great, but the pillow could have been a bit softer. But maybe thin and hard pillows are a Japanese tradition, and I am not aware of it. :)

The staff were very friendly at check in and other times. The room was excellent and the bed was comfortable. I wish I could have stayed there longer. The onsen seems to have been an actual hot spring and temporarily helped with my sensitive, dry skin. Some instructions such as for the onsen for example could be a bit more clear or in depth as it was my first time and had no idea what to take or do. The spa addition to the hotel is a bit cheeky. There is no massage or treatments available for the hotel as it says there is. You can book treatments into your room with a third party. Being jet-lagged and aching from hauling around my luggage, I needed a massage. But without a Japanese phone number it seems I was not able to arrange it with them. Having looked it up further I am not even sure if it's not a skeezy company or at least might have hired out to a local disreputable company. Either way asking for help with the staff got me nowhere with this either.

Good rooftop onsen facilities, excellent breakfast buffet quality and variety (has kaisendon albeit with a slightly reduced menu compared to an actual restaurant), cosy rooms, and despite being a ryokan it feels like a modern facility. Good central location and right next to Omicho Markets. Evening free half-ramen is great. Because this is a ryokan, you can use the provided room wear to go to the restaurant or onsen without having to change to your outside clothes.
Getting to the hotel from JR Kanazawa will require either 15 minutes walking, taxi or bus. Onsen can be a little crowded during the evening.

We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel! The first thing you do when you enter the hotel is to leave your shoes and you walk barefoot or in slippers your whole stay. Which felt liberating for our feet as we were already walking a lot before coming to Kanazawa. The staff was very kind and polite, but their English was very limited. However, we managed to understand each other. The hotel is very clean and has superb location! 5 min drive from train station (we took uber) and close to center, castle, Omicho market and shopping mall where we found some very nice souvenirs (Kuromon Koji is the name of the store). We even took massage in the salon in the same shopping center (on 3rd floor). Breakfast has a wide variety of options, but it's more like European style brunch as it has a lot meat, fish, tempura and soup options. Everything was very tasty! In the evening they serve ramen for free after 9:30 pm. Onsen was smaller than we thought, but it was a very nice experience! It can get crowded in the evenings, but it works the whole night, so you can pick the time that suits you best. We liked that you get "onsen wear" and hotel socks changed every day. We appreciated the possibility to wash our laundry for free in the hotel. The dryers cost 100 yet for 20 min which is also a great option.
The pillows were very had, but maybe it's us Europeans not being used to that. Could be good to have pillow options for guests not used to such hard pillows. There is not much space for clothes and suitcases in the room. There wasn't one single wardrobe, just a few hangers, but we managed. Water temperature is the same in all 3 onsen bathing options and for us it felt super-warm. We suggest having a bit lower temperature in barrels outside.

Close to everywhere we wanted to go.
We understand why but pillows were too hard and disturbed our sleep. Could have had a selection to choose from.

This was my favorite hotel during my japan trip. You take off the shoes at the entrance and can walk inside either barefoot or with socks so that all the floors in the entire hotel are clean. I really liked that. The Spa with onsen, sauna and ice bath on the roof were absolutely great. THere is even a small outside area which was great to cool down after sauna (in January). The breakfast buffet was great, definitely worth the money, although it does get a bit repetitive (always the same food) if you stay there longer.
The rooms are somewhat small (which is pretty normal in japan) but to the point it gets difficult to find a spot to even open the suitcase. In my room the window had a problem: WHen you close it there was a hissing/whistling sound because it didnt close properly so I had to leave it open. Then you hear some outside noise though

It’s under the same umbrella company as a few other onsen ryokan concept hotels. Like most ryokans of such, one can expect a full suite of amenities and they have ryokan exclusive body products not easily found outside. The hotel is well situated next to a small street with plenty of amazing food (think soba made by a grandma, Kanazawa style oden by a starred Michelin-trained chef, popping Izakayas). For its value, I can see why the hotel is so crowded with both local and foreign tourists! The onsen is almost never empty either. It’s a great place to stay if your objective is to explore the Kanazawa castle and Kenrokuen Garden vicinity.

The hot spring baths, location, japanese décor and value for money are the main draws of this hotel. You can enjoy a good onsen experience and sauna a short walk away from all the sights of Kanazawa, and I enjoyed the peaceful Japanese aesthetic, even if it means you have to take off your shoes when you enter the hotel (on that topic, more benches and shoehorns in the hallway would be nice). The beds felt like futon (on the hard side), which I love. There are many hotels in the same neighborhood, but Onyado Nono is definitely more unique. Please note, however, that you won't be able to enjoy the baths if you have tattoos. The guests were about half Japanese and half tourists. I didn't like the check-in experience, the staff were not helpful and I had to re-type all my details on an annoying machine because their system didn't get my address etc. from booking.com, then scan our passports myself, then pick up too many different pieces of paper with explanations, numbers and pin codes. It was tedious, it took too long and there was no Japanese omotenashi to be seen.
