I love staying here when I come over to West Cumbria for reunions with my schoolhood friends. I feel so well taken care of, and the location looking over the Solway (and its spectacular sunsets) is just lovely . Whilst the hotel is undergoing some refurbishment, it in no way interferes with feeling relaxed. My room was extremely comfortable and felt luxurious. The flower beds in the grounds are particularly lovely, and once the development and plans are complete, the grounds will be really elegant. The food, too, is really good, as are the meals served nearby at The Galloping Horse, which is run by the same people. I urge you not to be put off by the refurbishment. It still feels very much like a Country Hotel, with much to offer, near the stunning landscape of the North Western Lakes.

The staff were especially lovely, friendly and accommodating. As a female staying alone (for work) I felt fully safe and looked after by every staff member I came across, they couldn’t do enough for me. Had a gorgeous meal for dinner, breakfast was equally lovely. The view from my room was beautiful. The bed was very comfortable.

The decor was a little tired in places but there were signs everywhere apologising for any mess and explaining they were renovating. Having said that, it certainly wasn’t scruffy and still felt very clean and comfortable. More tea bags in the room would have been good (there were only 2).

Lovely staff, lovely quiet location short drive into Workington, near to several locations Going under some regeneration of Gardens and the Hotel but we were advised, But it didn’t interfere with our stay anyhow,

Bit of a let down compared to our last stay, Staff great but though the sausages were cooked they were very pink and looked raw so not eaten, put me off but they offered to redo, but I said no, my partners beans were cold as were the hash browns, but they offered to retook, The previous breakfast shows it was a that this was a one off, and we will be back

The staff were lovely, the setting beautiful and the room was spacious and comfortable. A lovely hotel and was extremely cheap. They are refurbing and modernising however, if it wasn't for the sign informing us of ongoing modernisation, we would not have known.

The menu had lots of vegan desserts yet they were not actually vegan. Two were made with cream and one with butter so if you are a vegan, just ask the staff to double check with the kitchen, they are more than happy to do it, were very apologetic and did explain the person who typed the menu had just made an error. Easily done as we are all human.

Comfortable bed pleasant environment, clean and good quality, nice views and vey quiet, but busy whilst quiet, good food and service, handy location for Workington Harrington And other locations

First night Unable to get TV to work, but reported next morning and fixed, No food menu in room to enable better informed choice, Think some local and historic information would be nice, though it did say mining rescue location and Rotary club links but little else and there must be more, it’s got appeal

Location and friendly helpful staff and nice to stay in a part of history! Evening menu excellent choice of healthy choices and superb quality of food! Super big bed and very spacious room.

We are aware refurbishment is planned so the bathroom will probably change. Shower gel dispensers didn’t work efficiently and were placed behind shower not ideal position. Shower tray filled quickly. Could do with more modern phone charging ports either side of bed. Tv in room could do with being bigger and on the wall opposite bed.

Location is very picturesque and peaceful. Breakfast is excellent in terms of taste and presentation using locally sourced products. Staff are very accommodating and nothing is too much trouble.

The roof is currently being replaced and so the views are blocked by scaffolding however this did not impact my stay and is only a temporary issue. I have stayed here 4 times and will be staying again next year.

The breakfast was astoundingly good but by far the best things about this hotel were the staff. Pete in particular was a legend when he greeted us. It was like we were a valued family member rather than just a regular paying customer. He was brilliant.

What could've been better? This is hard. I mean we loved everything from the view to the interior decoration. We even loved the chandelier they are about to get rid of and the vintage pictures on the walls.

Easy to find, plenty of parking space, very friendly reception and easy check in Good menu selection and good food in the restaurant Comfortable room with lots of space Cheese board dessert had tasty accompaniments and plenty of crackers Refurb work being planned - guests asked for their suggestions

Wider choice of wines would have been welcome Starter (Pidgeon breast) was slightly over cooked for my taste - but still very tasty

The staff are what make this hotel excellent. From Maisie and Barry on the front desk to Pete the Night Manager. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I left my tablet on the bed and only realised when I was halfway back down the M6. I called the hotel and spoke to Maisie who is arranging posting it back to me.

Yes, it is a little tired and dated but it is excellent value for money. I can't wait to go back for a social visit once the refurb is completed.
