only problem with the property was trying to have a bitta bouncy bounce time with the fiancée it was was quite difficult as the beds were that soft uou sank in and struggled to get a good thrust going to make her soak the place other than that hotel was perfect

The property was in a great location and was right next to the station. Me and my partner easily walked into town, it only took about 5-10 minutes, and it’s close to the retail park and bowling alley. The parking was only a short walk from the hotel and we were always able to find a space, it was also reasonably priced. The rooms were comfortable - the bed was very nice and the bathroom was great, with a powerful shower and a nice bath. The room we had had a balcony which was a nice touch and allowed my partner to have a cigarette at leisure and we could sit outside. The tea and coffee amenities were good - we had a kettle and a coffee maker, which was quite fancy, as well as biscuits everyday! The bar area was nice, and there was a restaurant/food options. We didn’t eat there, but it seemed they had a good selection.

Super random, but the tea cups were too small!!! Would have been good to have bigger mugs as the cups and saucers we had were too shallow for my personal preference.

The room was quite small, but was perfectly adequate and well soundproofed as we couldn't hear noise from the street or station below. The room was very clean and the provision of a fridge was a nice touch for chilling drinks, etc. The bed was very comfortable. The location and close proximity to a car park were brilliant. The staff were extremely welcoming. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice of food. There were a couple of issues listed below. Apart from those two small issues over breakfast, we had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or stay there again.

The wardrobe in our room was perhaps not in the best position making the space around the corner of the bed quite narrow (and tricky for someone with a knee injury!). There were two small issues with breakfast. One was that there was only one waitress trying to clear tables, take orders, seat customers and make hot drinks. She was rushed off her feet and with my knee injury, I ended up having to sit at a dirty table because I couldn't stand waiting any longer. She cleared it for us so I didn't have to move again as soon as she could. The other issue was that the pastries and fruit had run low so we went without rather than bother the poor waitress. I noticed the fruit was replenished as we were leaving.

Fantastic room and hotel. Really great! Easy to find, there is parking not too far away. Great location. Friendly, polite and helpful staff. Everything was very clean, I didn't detect any grub or dust, I didn't go looking for it either but it wasn't evident on moving through and using the space. Great sized room at a very reasonable price, I didn't realise I'd booked a room with 3 beds in it, but even with the extra furnishings there was lots of space to move around in. Bathroom was very clean and well appointed. Shower pressure was amazing. I didn't test the bath, but there was one. Bed and bedding was amazing, everything you want from a hotel stay, felt posh but didn't cost the earth.

The corridors smelled of air freshener or cleaning products. That wouldn't bother most, and some maybe wouldn't even notice it. I'm sensitive to smells and it was a bit much for me. The room didn't have the same smell thankfully, it was more a clean dry room without much other scents.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Restaurant/bar was a very welcoming place to eat even alone. Bed was very comfortable with lovely pillows and a very nice duvet. Bathroom was very clean and had lots of nice towels

Service in restaurant in evening was rather slow. My meal didn't take too long to arrive but single lady on table next me arrived shortly after I did but I had eaten my meal and was about to leave before her meal arrived. At breakfast time there were no service staff in the bar when I arrived at about 8am and it was about 10 mins before a server appeared. Several more staff arrived while I was eating, so it appears there was a problem with staff rota.

The Grand Hotel is in a great location opposite the railway station. It is an easy walk from the hotel into the city centre and the castle, Minster, shops and bus station. The hotel staff were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. I stayed here on two occasions in a week. The first time I was in room 309, which is a nice enough room but because it faces the station has sealed windows - so it's quiet but there's no ventilation. On the second occasion I was in room 314, which does have windows that open. So, if fresh air is important to you, request a room with opening windows. The breakfast fruit selection is exemplary - with fresh berries, melon and pineapple as well as apples and bananas. There is also a nice selection of seeds and nuts along with the usual cereals and pastries.

Central Location, good shower, comfy bed, spacious double room. Really comfortable for my stay all round. Staff very helpful and opposite a Tescos express and car park, which was convenient.

It was a bit fiddly finding how to get to the hotel directly from the multi story high-street carpark. For future guests, I suggest driving to the top level and parking there, as the top of the carpark (from the ground entrance) is at hotel street level and you then just stroll along into the carpark. The pay machine is also there! It took me two days to suss it out!

Absolutely amazing stay, went for my partner’s birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make it as lovely as possible adding banners and rose petals. I booked the deluxe room, which was outstanding, very modern and clean lovely bath and soft bath robes and slippers. They even included these gorgeous chocolate strawberries upon arrival. Bed was huge and super comfortable, air con and heating worked perfectly. Staff so friendly and they cleaned room both days of our stay so had fresh bedding fresh towels and perfect facilities. Everything sparkling clean. No complaints at all, definitely worth the price will definitely be staying again. Thank you for making our stay so special and luxury.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were warmly greeted by the receptionist. The staff continued to be very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The room was perfect for our four night stay; clean, comfortable and cosy. Loved the fact that the room had a bath! The location was great. We'd travelled by train so very convenient and only a short walk to the city centre. Even after check out, the staff were extremely helpful in letting us store our luggage as we waited for our train home. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Grand Hotel and would definitely stay again.

Breakfast staff not very discrete . Loudly saying my name and not paid for breakfast. Even though I had receipt and then saying the amount is incorrect. I had to go to reception with receipt and no apology from waitress. Very mean on hot drinks - only tea and coffee. Any other hot drinks were charged for at £3 a go. Had to wait every time for top up of coffee. Very small cups. Toast turned to fried bread as placed under fried eggs. Asked for ketchup had to wait 10 mins as in kitchen. Totally mixed up orders for two tables - only three tables had people sat waiting.. a bit of fawlty towers. Apart from toast - quallity was good for cooked items Cereals and pastries not labelled . Croissants were filled with green nut cream and were not fresh!
