Have stayed a few times. Love the hotel. Staff go above and beyond to make things right for guests. Love the quality of bedding, specifically duvet which is warm but not heavy and not the huge lump type that so many hotels are adopting. The building is so beautiful and it’s lovely to see it kept in such good order by the hotel group.

2 breakfast tea bags! I know I could just ask for more but surely easier if at least 4 there allowing for a drink on arrival and one the following morning. Would like to see twin bed option in accessible room.

Impressive historic building, situated perfectly for the Palace Theatre, museum etc. Very friendly, helpful staff, breakfast was wonderful, rooms with good quality mattresses (fitted with toppers), high ceilings and bags of natural light coming in.

Just little niggles really, room could have been cleaned more thoroughly, there was a used tissue behind the bedside cabinet on arrival, and moving the beds to hoover underneath every couple of weeks would be a good idea. In an otherwise immaculate bathroom, leaving the toilet seat fitted askew somewhat spoiled the aesthetic.

The whole experience of the hotel was exceptional from the moment we arrived, Staff on reception were attentive, hotel was in fabulous condition, the room was great, bathroom and shower also. The breakfast was superb, again with attentive staff, engaging in conversation with us and a beautiful setting. The location was also fantastic, being within walking distance to pretty much everything. The next time I am in Manchester, I will be booking again.

Absolutely nothing, everything was amazing and made the stay so very enjoyable.

Unfortunately we were upgraded and was appreciated as our first visit the room was impressive comfortable but we found out later the trains are very loud noisy and the building rumbles as it next door literally so last train I think was nearly midnight and next must of been 5am roughly so not much sleep could also do with a fan in the room we did mention this at reception the lady said sorry and hoped we have a safe journey home next time will ask for a different room

Myself and my husband arrived half an hour before check in, the front of house was fantastic, welcoming and checked us in immediately. Very friendly and approachable ladies on the front desk - nothing but praise for them. We paid for a King Room and I was very satisfied with the size and cleanliness of the room. It was perfectly presented and stocked of all complimentary refreshments, a member of staff even brought fudge to our door within 10/15 minutes of arriving as a welcome to the room. I received a text from the front of house to check I was happy with the room and I was. The shower was very hot once you gave it a minute, very handy having the hair products and hair dryer available in the room too. The hotel itself was magnificent, truly magical. It did remind me of a grand bank from many years ago. I recommend taking the stairs if you are able as that was a sight in itself. We ate at Refuge in the evening, we ordered two small plates, a big plate, two extras and three desserts. A bottle of cider and a cocktail. We spent around £149 with a service charge that we were more than happy to pay. The service was on point, food was exceptional and the speed was good. You didn't feel rushed even though the dining room was very busy. Nothing bothered you while you were eating which I loved. I requested extra tea bags to be sent up to the room and this was done without a fuss, the gentleman again was very friendly and couldn't do more for us. Breakfast was truly great, nothing was too much, the food was again exceptional and unlimited. I highly recommend eating here. A late check out was ideal, and the hotel even offered to store our bags for the day if we wanted to enjoy Manchester. Wonderful service!!

I didn't realise we would be as close to the trains as we were, this was beyond the control of the hotel and entirely my mistake as I should have researched better beforehand. There was a pane of glass missing from our window which is why it seemed louder than it should have been, this is the only reason for my review of an 8, otherwise it was perfect.

Well located close to the City centre with easy access to trams etc. Our room was comfortable, large and well furnished. The hotel ambience was great and for the most part the hotel staff were helpful and engaging (but not always at breakfast time!) The receptionists were very helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the building as a former insurance company. All the features have been largely retained which only adds to the overall feeling.

Insufficient ambient lighting in the room: there were bedside and reading lights or the main ceiling light. There was none over the desk area or by the two chairs - either would have been useful. Insufficient plug sockets for the kettle and the coffee machine - one or the other. This is poor for an upmarket hotel. The ironing board had not been properly checked as it was clearly broken and difficult to use.

the staff are literally exceptional in all terms. rooms are big and clean, toiletries are enough and the forgot it we got it card is new and unique.

the noise level is too high between rooms, i could hear what the next room and talking about. A very disappointing incident happened after we actually checked out the hotel, we received a message that 100 pounds were deducted from the bank by the hotel!!! called the hotel and they said its for smoking!!! no one told us at the reception that we cannot smoke, we came tired to the hotel and signed the papers without reading, but what should’ve happen is that they inform us before we check in or at least before we leave the hotel in the checkout. not tell us you checked out then we receive a message!!!! thats un ethical.

The building is absolutely stunning, with differing features throughout different parts of the hotel. Worth staying here just to look around! Great restaurant and bars within the hotel.

There are a lot of steps with no luggage assistance offered. Also despite booking a good 10 months in advance and requesting twin rooms we ended up getting double beds - and these were small doubles. Also check out was 12 pm but we found ourselves locked out of our room at 11.50 ( with our cases inside the room) so had to walk back to reception to get access reactivated - no apology from reception staff.

Beautiful, luxury and central hotel. The entrance is stunning. Amazing bar area. Room was comfortable and clean. Dressing gowns and slippers. Great tea, coffee and snacks selection. Temperature control in room. Complimentary drinks and mince pies. Meal in Refuge a little disappointing. When we walked into bar area there was a DJ playing very loud music. This was on a Monday night and just did not fit in with the beautiful surroundings. We were shown to our table in the fantastic dining room but could still hear the booming music. People were talking loudly over the top, so it was very noisy. Good selection of starters but if you order hummus or a dip you have to purchase flatbread separately- that is not right. Limited main courses. My husband just had a starter and chips. My main course was very small. It was good but meal was overpriced. Breakfast was very good. We had a lovely stay but would not eat in the restaurant again. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable, clean and the location was decent and breakfast was great.

We were in the lower floors, we expected to hear the trains and some noise from above, but these rooms get a lot of noise. From 5:30am, we were woken by bangs and the strangest noise of things getting dragged. This went on until after 8. Also, I stayed with my mum, she is under 5ft, she struggled getting out the bath following her shower as it was high for her, a railing on the side would be beneficial for those who are smaller and those with mobility issues.
