The hotel was very comfortable, nice furnishings and clean and tidy. The cooked breakfast was very good and I enjoyed watching the birds on the TV.

The garden needed attention. It was overgrown and there was to much furniture. All the garden furniture needed repainting and because how it was nobody used it. The other thing was the two steps outside my door. They were dangerous and I fell down them and I am in my seventies. I know the hotel is an old building and nothing can be done about them but a notice inside the room on the door would warn people to watch out.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at this very old style hotel. The room was comfortable and spacious with a four poster bed. The door into the ensuite was rather low so tall people need to take care! Later in the evening we had a good nights sleep. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was excellent with a good choice on the menu.

Although the hotel is near a main road there was no traffic noise....however, later in the evening between about 10am and 11am we could hear people talking loudly either from downstairs or another room - also at the same time we could hear a baby crying in another room but thankfully this all ceased just after 11am and we were not disturbed during the rest of the night.

Excellent family run hotel in a building full of history. The setting was beautiful, with lovely walks through the countryside, and easy transport links. The breakfast was amazing. Also, you have use of the garden and a lovely living room with games and tv.

As it's an old building, the WiFi wasn't great in some of the bedrooms. Maybe they should get some extenders that work through the plug sockets. However, the living room was perfect to work from, so it was just a minor inconvenience.

Great location, nice path from the train station and a handy tescos if you are using this as a base for exploring the outdoors without a car. Friendly owners were great at sending me a message, welcoming arrival and even had a spare charger to borrow. Breakfast was very good in lovely conservatory. Also, happened to time my visit to see bats in the old church roof across the road, well worth a dusk visit on a dry summer evening . There is a lovely lido two stops down the train line at Arundel!

Lovely homely hotel in the countryside perfect for a couple of nights stay to attend a nearby wedding. We had a double room with a small 'annex' room (with an additional single bed) at the back, and ensuite. Bathroom was lovely and clean, shampoo and body wash included, nice shower. Our windows faced the 'main road' although there was no noise or disturbances at all so that was good. Bed was reasonably comfortable, nice for a couple days, cleaning bedding and towels provided. Our trip was made perfect by the lovely staff who run the hotel, and the breakfast!! The breakfast was amazing; a cooked meal to order with a selection of fruit, yoghurt, and cereal items in the meantime. Little garden and seating outside is perfect for a sunny day, plus beautiful countryside only a stones throw away. Plenty parking in a private car park, easy to access.

A beautiful looking hotel. Lovely friendly welcome. The room was clean, tidy and a very nice size. Breakfast was quick to come out even though we were a big group and had awkward orders! Good quality ingredients and very tasty. Definitely worth a stay for the price and we would return.

Only thing I personally didn't like was the mattress due to the springs but still had a good sleep so it can't of been that bad! Just a bit hard for my personal taste.

Very good breakfast with wide choice served in a friendly and efficient way in a relaxing, bright area. The room was spotlessly clean with all of the facilities we could want for a couple of night's stay. Clearly the hotel is loved by the owners. Very helpful in guiding us to good local eating places for evening meal

As a constructive comment, a disabled parking space with room to open the doors when getting in and out of the car would be a bonus.

Breakfast was exceptional - strawberries and blackberries delicious. Eggs Benedict with salmon was truly scrumptious and full English memorable.

A light over the front door might be worth considering m. I got back late on my first night and was fumbling in the dark to find the key hole on the front door - thankfully John? Was around and let me in! Certainly it would help older citizens not too steady on their feet …

Lovely historic building to stay in, quirky features and rooms which make the experience a pleasure rather than the featureless bland corporate hotels. Owners and staff were great, breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, Greek yoghurt pots with homemade flavourings, locally sourced bread was delicious, as were the local sausages and mushrooms. Good car park next door. Great views, countryside, and walks nearby, including an easy walk to the Rivermoon Thai Restaurant, which was sublime. Would recommend staying at The Chequers Hotels.

Great, friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent, tea & coffee facilities in room. Very comfy bed, great sleep. Lovely garden. Family vibe was nice.

Room & bathroom were a bit tired and could do with updating/refreshing! Hot water took forever to come through to shower. Position of hotel next to roadworks (looked permanent) meant that you could not walk down to the local high street.
