We had the luxury of staying in the Throston Suite after a little mishap with the room booking, but the 2 chaps on the desk were amazing. Luv and Rich, and they actually upgraded us to the suite as an apology. These guys were so lovely and went above and beyond to make our stay more memorable. Thank you, guys. The last time we stayed at The Grand was 38 years ago, and we were very impressed with the hotel even after all those years. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed, a massive double shower in the massive bathroom. Everything we needed, including ironing board and hairdryer, refreshments tray, and TV. We had been informed that the hotel was being used for immigrants and also reading it on some social media posts. This is absolutely not the case. I find it very sad that some people come out with these horrid lies . Was it to actually try and scare people away or to just try and damage the hotels reputation? Who knows, but it's shocking. I would recommend people to go in for a drink in the lovely bar and look around the ballroom if you want to hold an event or even for your wedding. It's fantastic. There is so much to offer. Our experience was only finding that this amazing hotel is still beautiful and has so much to offer. The hotel was built in 1899, and it's a superb building with the original features. It's an asset for Hartlepool to keep and treasure it. Everything for our 4 day stay was amazing. All the staff were friendly, chatty and helpful. The breakfast was amazing. I would also recommend the Mumbai restaurant downstairs. Superb food.

Room was big and comfortable and very clean. It was also very quiet throughout our stay. We did not have breakfast as we do not normally eat breakfast. Location was great for the shopping centre and other amenities such as the docks/museum and within a 10 min walk to the sea front. Local beaches at Seaton and Crimdon by car are easy to get too. The India Restaurant a joined to the hotel served lovely food and the staff were lovely and very welcoming so much so that we went twice during our stay.
Parking was very limited with only 15 spaces close to the hotel however in the evenings we did manage to get parked outside the hotel. The other parking was quite away from the hotel not the best for people who don't know their way around. This is not a dislike more of an improvement. We only saw two members of staff during our stay which was 3 nights and the girl on reception was very pleasant and welcoming. However the first impression you get of a hotel and what to expect is the Receptionist. and even though it was late at night when we arrived around 7pm someone dressed well and smart in their appearance would have given a better first impression of the hotel. Also the main entrance was never really watched and anyone could just work in at anytime.

The size of the room for the price (it was £10 to upgrade to the suite) was very good value for money, the room itself was really good, very good facilities and size, very comfortable and clean.
We had an issue with our kettle that required us to change the kettle, the water in the kettle tasted salty, we were told it was an issue with the kettle but I think it could have possibly been an issue with the water in the room. We also had an issue when checking in with payment, we were told there was an issue with the card machine, we had the resolve this issue ourself (on the staffs instruction) by paying for the room through Booking.com. At the time I was worried about this because I wonder what sort of issue would have been created if paying through Booking.com was not possible.

The staff are great, very friendly can't do enough for you. Mayleigh on reception was lovely and help us enormously. She works incredibly hard and it very multi tasking. There were issues with hot water & hotel were going to cancel the room but sorted another room & gave us a great discount, it was much appreciated, we were meant to be in a double double suite but were were moved to a family which was completely adequate and roomy.
No music in breakfast room as very quiet & this would of changed the atmosphere & no staff around to help, kept having to go to reception to ask for more things that had ran out, seem very short staffed.

Room was massive, the bed was huge, sound proofing was good . I loved the led mirror in the bathroom. Breakfast was nice but limited for vegan. Some scrambled tofu or some type of fish would have been nice as I don’t eat any meat, eggs or cheese. The location was perfect, bus stops are outside and opposite the hotel. The Middleton shopping mall is right opposite the hotel. The staff were really helpful and friendly. I enjoyed my stay.
Noisy plumbing. No heated towel rail, towels are far from wash basin and bath tub The shower was difficult to work. My room was a little chilly at night. I am disabled, my room was far from the lift. No disabled access into the hotel, both entrances have steps. No food available in the bar, apart from nuts and crisps.

I like the central location. Close to the train station pubs restaurants and shops. And near the university my daughter was graduating from which was the reason for our trip. Plenty of hot water. A hairdryer. Tea. Coffee and comfortable bed.
The TV didn't work but I wasn't really bothered about that. The main thing was the noise from the seagulls made it very hard to get to sleep as they were making a lot of noise most of the night. That is not the hotels fault but complimentary ear plugs would have been a nice touch and very welcome.

The staff were so lovely I've stayed in many hotels and these staff are the most friendliest efficient staff I've ever dealt with. Nothing was too much trouble even though only 2 members of staff were working covering bar, reception and basically everything bless them. My own fault with the hotel.it was too hot even having 2 fans could not help we were melting getting ready and also radiators were warn and couldn't turn them off. None of the windows opened neither...
Too hot the room

We did not have the breakfast during our stay also . The first room we was given on the 2nd floor was excellent but we could not open the window and it became very stuffy in there so we had to down grade to the next level of room .
Not being to open the window. So we had to down grade to the next level of rooms. Apart from that . The rest of our stay was great . Thanks guys.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Clean corridors and room. Though we couldn't find it on the web, they DO have an elevator ! Moved to a warm room after the first had no working heating.
The suite heating didn't work, warm water took 15-20 mins of running the hot water tap. Parking was hit and miss. Breakfast room was cold and so was the bar.

Recently refurbished clean bright & comfortable. Excellent location to shopping centre.
Issues re checking in with regards to encouraging guests to self check in however not linking up with main system. Staff member knocked on room door 20-45 to ask my name & if I had checked into room. Confirmed this then received a phone call to my room to check if I had paid? Had to wait for a staff member in morning to manually check out & confirm payment.
