Beautiful grounds to walk around and great food at the bar. The staff were exceptional and went above and beyond at every opportunity

The pool at the spa is not complimentary, even when you are paying for treatments. I don’t think that is right for a spa and instead trying to charge more money to use it for a period of time. You have to book it and costs 28£. It should be complimentary to hotel guests or spa guests.

The location was lovely. The hotel itself was really nice and the grounds were lovely. The staff were super helpful and polite and friendly. The breakfast was good and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We were attending a wedding there and the staff were very busy, but they really had it covered. Full marks for all the staff.

The bed was uncomfortable and sagged towards the middle and the furniture was dated and a bit shoddy. We stayed 2 nights and on the first night we had the Charcuterie sharing board on the terrace. The baked Camembert was well over-cooked and really only the very centre was edible. It was adequate for a light supper, but as a main meal for two, not really enough. For the price of the cocktails I'd have expected a bit better presentation.

Absolutely stunning location. Staff were really lovely and so helpful. Food was delicious couldn’t fault anything with dinner or breakfast. Had a spa visit and treatment which was really lovely too. Had an accessible room which was really spacious.

Restaurant would’ve been better if had some light music in the background in my opinion, but was still lovely. In the spa hot tub there were quite a few of the tiles that had come off and the loose tiles were floating around, but this wasn’t a major issue.

We had a fantastic Easter weekend at Down Hall Hotel. The property is centered around a grand and gorgeous historic building, surrounded by stunning green grounds ideal for leisurely nature walks. The decor is very tasteful, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable, offering excellent value for a heritage property so close to London (less than 1 hour from Liverpool St station). Staff were very warm and accommodating, even letting us enjoy the lovely terrace late into the night. Every detail felt thoughtfully curated, from the cozy reading corners to the garden croquet set and stylish lounge and bar. The food was good, and we were close enough to the main town to enjoy some meals in town as well. A truly delightful stay!

Spa was good (hydropool, sauna and steam room) but small and could use refurbishment and expansion.

Breakfast was excellent and the areas downstairs were lovely and newly refurbished. The outside of the property and grounds are stunning. The rooms upstairs however could do with a little more pampering, the furniture is quite tired. Only one bottle of water in the room, so woke during the night and as we had finished it all we were thirsty and hot; and had no way of getting more. Partner walked the hotel at 5am! Lovely ESPA products in the bathroom. This could easily be a 5 star hotel if you updated the upstairs in line with the downstairs!

Beautiful location and enjoyed walking in the grounds the room was very nice and the staff friendly. the room clean up in the morning was excellent after my friend had been ill in the night. good choices at breakfast, replenished as the gannets cleared different dishes. excellent courgette fritters at dinner.

we had a couple of issues - one material which could be easily improved - on the bar menu the pizza labelling was odd - they identified vegan and vegetarian options but also had a 'garden' pizza which wasn't labelled. if you scanned the QR code to see what the ingredients were it was clearly labelled as vegetarian in that table. it would be helpful if that was more obvious. there was also no extra bedding in the room and we asked for a blanket at 10pm. we had to phone a second time to get delivery of a duvet.

Beautiful location. Staff were so friendly, smiling, and accommodating. When we got there our room was on the 2nd floor and due to mums disability they upgraded us into one of their suite on the ground floor. No extra cost. The hotel is immaculate. Worthy of 5* status. I've been to many hotels and this is definitely a 5* needs to be re-categorised as such!!!! Mum loved it. So comfy and spacious. Fantastic breakfast. I will visit again and again to take advantage of the spectacular gardens and outdoor furniture. I can only imagine how lovely being here in the summer is. Loved it all. This place is a beautiful haven of loveliness. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Every single staff member was simply wonderful. From Elaine in bookings, to Sheldon on the main desk, to Hilary over breakfast, Kevin who looked after us for dinner and not forgetting the wonderful women in the spa (who really really know their stuff btw!) every single person we met who works here are simply adorable, cannot do enough to help your stay be truly wonderful, and all seem delighted to be working there. The culture amongst the staff seems outstanding (for any work place and especially for a hotel), Even a great one like this. Add on the beautiful, peaceful grounds, superbly decorated and sparkling clean rooms, amazing food and facilities and overall you will have the most marvellous stay. They are REALLY dog friend. My partner and I were there for a couple of nights for his bday and we (at the last minute) had to bring our dog arabella with us. We were so glad we did. She bloody loved it! The dog friendly room was wonderful, and she was treated by everyone as if she was a little star (she is btw!). My partner also loved being there for his birthday (they made a fuss of him too!) and I can’t think of a lovelier place to have spent the time. I’ve stayed in a lot of places that call themselves ‘boutique’ and ‘spa hotel’ but none of them - not even the pricier ones- manage to pull it off the way they do at Down Hall. It really is the most superb place. We will be back soon. Thank you so much everyone for making Fraser’s bday so very special and for being just ace xxxxx

Nothing at all. You guys have got it totally sussed.

Hotel was very clean and well maintained. Although we didn’t get to use all the facilities the fact that the hotel had them available enabled many ways of keeping entertained should you wish to spend the day at the hotel. The staff were very helpful and pleasant at all times. The location was excellent for our requirements, being tucked away with all the peace and quiet you would want but within easy reach of many towns/villages and attractions.

Nothing really to dislike. We did find it difficult to regulate the heating in the room but otherwise no issues.

Breakfast was the tastiest porridge I’ve ever had!!!! Amazing!!!

The room heard late arrivals with child next door, very loud! Tried to sleep but kept screaming & constant crying! The door in the corridor k Edit banging or swinging back n forth so heard that! The taxi we booked arrived later than should of very annoyed as I also had to chase up my lunch and eat it so quickly so I wasn’t late for taxi…. So didn’t enjoy lunch as much as I wanted and when it did arrive, was mainly iceberg lettuce with bits of chicken lots of croutons thrown into plate with Parmesan. The cappuccino wasn’t hot either! Than to top it off wasps were flying around so guess there was a nest nearby?!
