The pool was an excellent addition which was very welcome at the end of the day. The cleanliness of the pool was good along with the gardens which were well looked after by many staff. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and varied with an option to order eggs as you liked them. The room we had was a standard double room which was large with a really comfortable bed and great power shower. Towels were changed daily along with complimentary toiletries. Tea and coffee and water was also replenished daily. The only gripe we had about the room was that the AC was hard to get right. All the staff were excellent and worked extremely hard to please and make our visit enjoyable. A couple of the staff stood out from the rest namely Mangla La who looked after us mainly at breakfast he was exceptional taking the time to ask where we were from, what would we be doing that day and did we enjoy our previous day. I had a facial at the Spa which was one of the best I have ever had the lady was very good (sorry I didnt get her name). We would definityl visit Kalus Hideaway again if we went on a safari.
The position of the AC in our room could have been better and not facing the bed which made it at times during the night feel quite cold.

We really enjoyed our three day stay at Kalu's. All the staff and management are friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were excellent, particularly the egg hoppers. We were staying in the chalet room and enjoyed watching the amazing range of birds and wildlife in the garden. One morning we saw a Grizzled Giant Squirrel high in the tree right outside our room eating a huge mango with great dexterity that it had picked from one of the trees.
Some furnishings are perhaps getting a little tired and could do with a spot of TLC and the bench outside the chalet would benefit from a cushion. But these are small things which in no way detracted from the enjoyment of our stay.

Nestled next to a picturesque village with bungalows encircled by lush tropical trees, this hotel feels like a dream brought to life. From the moment we arrived at the hotel, its vibrant botanical garden caught our attention. It boasts an impressive array of tropical plants and trees. The pool is a true oasis, perfect for resting and cooling off on hot days. The staff deserves a special mention for their warmth and kindness. Our only regret is staying for just one night in relation to our safari in Udawalawe National Park. We feel we missed the opportunity to truly enjoy the delights of this magical place. Staying at least two nights would have been ideal—not only for exploring the safari but also for cherishing the beauty of the resort, its garden, the pool, and the charming forest village surroundings.

This by far was the highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. What a little oasis. From the moment we stepped into Kalus hideaway we felt so special. All the staff were amazing, especially Sandaruwan & Chamara. The hotel was spotless. The food was amazing. The pool was beautiful and was lovely to sit round after a morning safari. It has a real safari lodge feel to it. Supun, the assistant manager arranged the safari for us and it was perfectly organised. The hotel is owned by cricket legend Romesh Kaluwitharana. We were very lucky to meet him, his wife and his family who made us feel so welcome. Kalus cricket man cave is mind blowing! And lovely to see all his achievements displayed. We will definitely be returning for another visit.
Nothing. It was perfect!

Kalu's was such an amazing Hotel to stay at, we did 3 nights to relax and also did an early morning Safari which I highly recommend getting up early for! The hotel organised this for us and the guide was brilliant, had some incredible intimate moments with some young elephants. I can't praise the management and staff enough.. The food was lovely! breakfast, lunch and dinner. As the hotel was quiet for a couple days we even requested a lake fish curry which they happily organised with the chef and got some local freshly made bread to go with it. It was amazing! The owner should be very proud of all his staff but a special mention to Mangala and Sadaruwan! They couldnt do enough for us and giving us great advice with eating the traditional Sri Lankan food how it should be eaten properly. We got 5 star treatment every minute we were there. We will definitely be back when we visit Sri Lanka again in 2026. Thank you for making the end of our holiday so special 😁
That we weren't staying longer!

Everything. From the time we entered Kalu's we felt special. My daughter was disappointed we were only staying 1 day & 1 night. She wanted to have body wraps, facials & massages! The staff were wonderful & offered Sri Lankan hospitality at every turn. Our room was huge & having the a/c on when we arrived was a lovely touch. The owner, Romesh Kaluwitharina, as a famous Sri Lankan cricketer, has clearly stayed in 5 star hotels around the world & knows how to treat his guests and staff. Even a non cricket fan would find his memorabilia 'man cave' impressive!! (Tendulkar, Warne & Lara's shirts from the World Cup if you please!! I would come back here in a heartbeat.

We loved Kalu's Hideaway. It is a lovely hotel with beautiful gardens and pool area which lead down to a river where you can sit and enjoy the scenery and peace. We were only here for one night and enjoyed a brilliant safari in our afternoon so didn't get the opportunity to really relax and enjoy the surroundings as much as we would have liked but the time we were able to spend here was lovely. Would definitely recommend this as the place to stay in Udawalawe.

We booked this property very last minute without much thought or expectations. The staff were very kind and you even get a welcome head massage whilst you wait for check in. The room was large and of high standard but the bathroom would need a bit of tlc. We enjoyed an additional massage at the open concept spa - highly recommend, fair pricing and a very enjoyable treatment. The pool area and in general common areas of the hotel have been designed beautifully, there is and outdoor gym as well as bicycles available. The photos don’t really do justice to the outdoor spaces.
Our biggest remark goes to the pricing and quality of food. We have paid almost 60 USD for 2 ppl for breakfast and dinner ( buffet style ) - the quality of food is below average for this level of hotel and does not correspond the price. The issue is that you don’t really have an alternative because the hotel is in a secluded area with no other dining options available really. I highly hope that in the coming period they’ll work on advancing the gourmet experience at the hotel as I would be happy to give it a very very high mark.

The hotel has an excellent pool area with attentive staff and is perfectly located for safaris at Udawalawe. We were impressed by the Sri Lankan food at the buffet for both dinner and breakfast. The room we booked had an incredible terrace with amazing views, which we loved.
A couple of fixtures seemed a little dated and it would have been great to see more of the garden used, but none of this took away from our stay.
