My son and I were treated as family by every staff member at Aquila, which is why I extended our stay by one more night. Although we loved everyone, I must say that Sholeen, Peter, and Tim went above and beyond. I have to give my LOVE to Sholeen - such a beautiful soul with an even more incredible smile - always happy to see us and she made my boy feel so loved. We will be back!
I don't like complaining but perhaps more of a variety with the buffet - the food was lovely but was same-same almost every day.

I thought the food was excellent. Lots of fresh vegetables and fruit with different dishes served each day. For an all inclusive stay it was value for money
The fact that you had to pay for all drinks including water and juices outside of breakfast was a little bit annoying at times. I can understand that you need to pay for alcohol but soft drinks and water should be provided in an all inclusive package.

The close proximity to the reserve, we were lucky to see almost all the type of animals onsite. The staff was excellent, both safari guide (big shout out to Mark who made our day) and the waitresses.
The food buffet area gets very crowded and there is no flow.

The peace, beautiful view & the heated pool,we booked 2 rooms for 2 nights on full board with 2 games
I suggest that the daily program should be forwarded to customers prior to check-in so that guests can enjoy their lunch on the first day instead of on check-out day which is @ 10 am.

The quality of food was excellent. a good variety. My husband enjoyed the flapjacks and my favourite was all the curries. Lamb curry was the best but beans curry and bobotee was also very nice. A great suggestion to keep guest occupied is to have a labyrinth in the courtyard at spa - perfect place for it, where people can walk/meditate and prayer this would bring great karma/blessings and holiness upon your resort. light up the pathways so it can be utilized in the evening also
Plse use fresh cream that butter cream/bakers cream was not good at all. A nice ice-cream after dinner would have ended it off well. Free Juice or coffee at lunch and dinner would also be great. A TV was missing in the standard rooms

You see 4 of the big 5 on every drive. No leopards. Sounds like they never see it. BUT, this is not an authentic Safari experience - the animals are all close by to the hotel, and 30 mins before the game drive, they go out and put food / hay out so they know where the animals are. If you have kids, and you want to DEFINITELY see Elephants / Rhino / Buffalo / Lions ... plus Zebra, giraffe, and Hippo... you WILL see them here. The lions are in their own separate enclosure, granted, its big - like two hills big... But they're fenced in. So as of the title, know what you're signing up for - this feels more like a massive Safari Park (like Longleat if you're from the UK) you drive around, and there's all the animals. There's no skill for the guides / no tracking ... The rooms are designed to be like "lodges" so are rustic, and characterful - with limited mod-cons - just because they're described as luxury doesn't mean they're like "hotel luxury"
The food is a buffet, and it is honestly quite average. (British way of saying its pretty poor) Lots of snooting south african's moaning about everything lots of the time... once that there wasn't enough choice for desert - i think there were 5 - the issue was she didnt like 4 of them *rolls eyes*

The game drives, the quad biking was so much fun and the spa area as it was a bit quieter than the main pool which had day guests.
We had the premium 8 room booked. It was lovely but I was expecting complete darkness in the room being away from the main Lodge. Except we had bright lights coming from the hotel shining through the blinds as well as the lights from the walking paths which were also very bright. Either darker curtains need to be used instead of the blinds. Also the ceiling fan didn't work and we had a mouse in our room.

The breakfast was great ,the dinner not so good , we were there two nights first night was awful , I don’t like a carvary so that dident help .the spa was great , but being a very cold day the heated pool was not warm , the steam room not working was told because so cold .
I dident realize would be so commercial , just to many people , the game drives there was at least four to five full trucks of people out at same time each holding at least 20 people each , it’s not a big reserve , you can be three trucks looking at same animals , I did not expect to see lions in a enclosure ( it’s not a small enclosure ) our driver went close to the lion and raved the engine for it to turn around , you might have three trucks in enclosure at same time ,I have to say out of the four game drives we could have done we did one , the weather was so bad , we were a party of nine and the rest did brave the weather and did enjoy ,and got some great pictures .

We opted for the 2 night itinerary which was just perfect. We stayed in the Karoo cottage, where our balcony overlooked the game reserve and elephants actually visited us one afternoon. The hotel organise the itinerary very well with 2 game drives per day. We upgraded our game drives to private, which was worth the extra money for the personalised experience. Want to say thank you to our game drivers (Josh and I think Jana) who were very knowledgeable about the animals and made the experience. Jana was the conservation manager and you could tell she had a passion for her job and the animals she cared for on the reserve. We were lucky enough to see a baby wildebeest only a few hours old, as well as a baby giraffe and all of the big 5. The hotel grounds were well cared for the and pool was great to cool down and overlook the animals passing by. We had baboons wandering around the pool while we were sunbathing. The food and drinks were generally very good during our stay. It can get busy during peak times but if you waited a little while it quietened off.
We were told that some of the animals are rescues, and they are fed & medicated as needed. The lions are kept in a separate area of the reserve which is fenced off. This took away some of the element of it being a wild safari experience, but we still enjoyed our stay. I will mention that I did think some of the trucks got a little too close to the animals at times, but they seemed used to the vehicles and human interactions.

The outdoor shower is marvellous. Staff is very friendly and the buffets are high standard. The game drives are nice, but remind somehow a bit of zoos. The elefants seem to await the tourtist trucks ;-). And if you are lucky, you can experience real life baboon attacks during the breakfast or in the spa......so be always aware you are surrounded by WILD animals. And try the spa. staff and staffing are wonderful.
Despite the fact that we are part of the problem.....there are too many tourists around here (although the guides told us that compared to high season they have a quite period during our stay :-/).
