We were very happy with the location, easy to walk into the Centre. Every aspect of our hopes for a good Hotel were well met and the staff were extremely efficient and very friendly. We would recommend this Hotel for Business and Pleasure.

Not really a dislike but having lived on and off in Italy for many years, we should have been mindful of Vacation time for Retail, Offices etc, and were just a bit disappointed that the Restaurant and Bar at the Hotel were closed. On the nights that it rained we would have been happy to stay in. Not a deterrent in recommending , but just be aware of the month of August.

The Phi Hotel Canalgrande is very well located in the heart of Modena. It is easy to reach and very practical to give the car for valet parking. The hotel has a small welcome buffet all day long which is thoughtful invitation to enjoy the time in the hotel. Everything in the center can be reached by feet. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was exceptional. Here again, full of attentions to offer local products (mortadella, prosciuto…) and overall high quality products and a high variety. It is even possible to press your own juice of fruits and vegetables. Excellent to be in a good mood to start the day.

It is a lovely hotel, especially the common rooms. It was a very easy check-in and there was a welcome beverage/snack table in the reception area, very nice! Loved the hefty key to the room. The bathroom was spacious and it was a nice bonus to have a private enclosed patio with mechanized shutters on the French doors to help minimize the heat of the day. There was a concierge as well as helpful doormen to assist with taxi service - needed only for trips outside the central city as the area is extremely walkable. The included breakfast was wonderful - sweets and savories galore. We had dinner at the restaurant there one night - Ricardo was our waiter (and also our bartender from the night before). He is very knowledgeable about food and made suggestions for dinner as they seem to be in transition with a new menu. Had the best octopus salad of our entire trip! He is a gem and a plus for PHI Canalgrande. There is a very nice garden out back, as well, where we had a cocktail or two. We will definitely return to this hotel!

The carpet in the rooms needs to be updated but I imagine that is in the works.

Location is perfect, in the centre and inside the limited traffic zone (Hotel should be reached from the Via speranzza). Upon the arrival you receive a pass for free parking on blue lines everywhere in the zone and also for the whole day on the day of your departure. Plus if you like the hotel offers a garrage for 20eur per night. You get the pass in any case. Stuff is professional and helpful. They also help with the luggage and drive you car in a garrage. Breakfast great, rich with all sorts of food and drinks. You can eat it in the beautiful garden which offers shadow. Location is really excelent- 4 minutes walk to the main Piazza Grande.

The fridge didn't work and there was a problem with airco, but the stuff fixed that with offering another, upgraded room.

We were very pleased with our choice of accommodation in Modena. Maybe I had lower expectations because of some comments I had seen about the worn condition of the property but, apart from the carpet having seen better days, our room was fine, as were the general areas. We had however opted for a suite, maybe partly influenced by the comments. The shutters and aircon kept us cool, we didn't get noise from the street and there was always hot water. The hotel is very well located in the old town of Modena, near a street of bars, just a few minutes walk to the market and main square and an easy stroll to many restaurants. The railway station and Enzo Ferrari museum are 20 minutes away. Breakfast was always well stocked and a wide selection. We could only eat in the garden on the first day but the inside area was fine. The staff were always very friendly and helpful. We opted for the hotel's valet parking and, despite a charge of 20 Euros per day, were happy with this decision, we would not have wanted to try and find a place on the streets each time we returned. Overall, we enjoyed everything about our stay.

The location was excellent the staff were lovely and very helpful. The hotel had loads of character.

Someone entered our room late at night. Luckily my partner was still awake at thus stage, I was sleeping. The guy did apologise and left, when we reported the incident to reception the following morning we were told it was a mistake by a member of staff as they thought the room was empty. This left me feeling a bit uncomfortable the remainder of my stay, as was no safety chain on the door just a key to lock the door.

Lovely old hotel in a unique location in the old part of town and very pleasant and helpful staff. They went out of their way to accomodate my request to park my car and keep my luggage for many hours the following day. Breakfast was really ok - nothing to complain about, they even had a juicer and provided vegetables. I liked that. What I didn't like was, that there were dogs in the breakfast room. I love dogs but they don't belong in restaurants. Otherwise, totally recommendable.

My wife and I stayed here for two night after four days in Cinque Terre and in advance of another 10 days around Italy. We were in Modena to visit the world-famous Osteria Francescana and wanted a nice hotel within walking distance of there. This hotel was fabulous in almost every single way. The room we had was large, with a beautiful view into a well maintained courtyard, a bench for seating, and a desk. The windows shut with boards which allowed us to sleep in the deep dark even after sunrise (not something I often do). The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious for European standards. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The location was five minutes from the market, which was an experience that one cannot miss if they ever are in Modena.

The restaurant closed earlier than advertised. Don't get me wrong, we ate exceptionally well in Modena (you'd have to try hard not to) and the restaurant closing early would not typically be a big deal, but our schedules were a bit off due to travel and the amazing lunch we had at Osteria Francescana. I had expected to be able to get a late dinner somewhere in Modena that night, but all good places seemed to also have closed relatively early for Italy and as a result I returned to the hotel figuring I could get some easy tortellini. I was wrong, but it was not the end of the world - the hotel was great.

If you are looking for a hotel that still has the original flair of an Italian hotel, this is the perfect place to go. I was worried at first that the place had been modernized too much, but I do not know if I was lucky with my room, but mine was perfect with a view of the beautiful garden where we could have breakfast. Honestly, this place is a little gem, I hope they do not change it as I will definitely be back next time I am in Modena. Super central and beautiful area for night walks (and day walks).

The garage is not necessary as you have to pay extra for it. I would reccommend the local garage which is like 10-15 min walk as in Modena city you will never need the car (pedestrian as well) and the hotel is super central.

The hotel lies in a very quiet area, no through traffic. Our spacious beautifully decorated bedroom had an unexpectedly big en suite tiled bathroom with a good shower and a separate bathtub. Both rooms were bright and had windows you could open but as well curtains to close tightly. The view from the bedroom was amazing, down into a huge well kept park like garden where you were allowed to relax or walk. I liked everything about the bedroom and could easily have stayed longer as planned. Breakfast was served in a huge room. The buffet had an enormous choice of everything you could wish to have for breakfast.

I liked everything. No complaints.
