You have to be extremely observant of the only two access roads to this bay, there’s a good stretch of around 20km that it is not paved, it’s not a horrible road but it would be a bit bumpy if your car is not high enough. Once you reach this village, it’s peaceful. You’re overlooking at the grand ocean and the host is extremely welcoming! He made sure to wait on me as I arrived late at night and was up first thing in the morning with the best attitude to make a delicious breakfast for you. Rooms are a bit outdated but comfy enough… there’s a dog on the property who is sweet but also very protective of the premises, I would double think before coming with my own pets. Wish I could have stayed for at least 2 nights. Parking is on the outside but with only one access roads, right by the rooms.

The views were spectacular. You could feel very relaxed here - great place to write a book or similar project! Nick and Steph were full of good advice and information so it was always a pleasure to talk to them. The evening meal we had was delicious - beautiful fish and delicious steak with veg and salad. Perfect! You could sit in bed and look out at the sea which was fantastic. There’s a beautiful beach too.

The road! It had recently been ‘done’ but that meant it was in a worse condition than before. I’m sure it will improve as time goes on but it will never be a perfect road. Depending which way you go, it’s around 15 Kim’s of rough road. If you have an appropriate car, it wouldn’t be a problem - we had a VW Polo so it was slow going!! If you’re renting a 4x4 anyway, then it’s worth going to Oyster Bay.

I can see why Nick gets fabulous reviews- he is charming & interesting, has had such a fascinating life and cooks a fab dinner & breakfast. We all loved his hospitality. We were 7 Canadians & an ex Zimbabwean. I'll e-mail Nick about some small issues but honestly, it was a great place to spend the night with the waves crashing & Basil wandering in & out! Value for money. If upgraded rooms and a tarred road are on your must-have list, this is not for you. This is 5 star African hospitality, scenery & location!!!!

Nice and cozy little house; they only have ~5 rooms and it's so beautiful! The view over the sea is great! And we loved Oyster Bay as a place so much. Most beautiful beach! The host is also very nice, he cooks great food (loved the breakfast!!) and the rooms are neat and tidy. You get the most beautiful sunsets and we even saw dolphins while sitting on the terrace.

Like, head-over-heels. The very place I was ready to write off as a disaster turned out to be the most magical little retreat.

Words can’t describe this place! We loved every minute so much so we booked an extra night. Nick made us feel very welcome and made the place feel like a home from home. Amazing views out to sea and fantastic breakfast. Stars at night time we’re amazing and even saw whales out at sea whilst eating our breakfast. Also can’t leave a review with mentioning basil (Nick’s friendly dog) the local celebrity who came for a walk with us and showed us the way around. we LOVED it and definitely recommend.

Nothing - amazing stay LOVED everything!

Location!!! Overlooking the ocean with no buildings in front of us and green area to the left. Waking up with the smell and sound of the ocean. Short walking distance to rocky beach. Sandy beach easily reached on foot a little further away. Many trails to explore. Quiet and safe town. Such friendly people. Nick, our host spoilt us with good meals and we had such interesting conversations with him and other overseas travellers. We loved the set-up to interact with other quests and experience countryside hospitality where people leave as friends. To top it off, we enjoyed Basil, Nick's precious and faithful dog who accompanied us on our beach walks. Will definitely be back again.

Dirt road from St Francis Bay, but was in reasonable good condition and accessible with our normal Sedan motor.

Amazing location and view from the room, right on the wild coast. Long rough dirt roads to get there but fine with a standard car. Very informal. Great welcome. Comfortable room. Good cooked breakfast.

Had a dire experience with service from a completely incompetent waitress at the Nautilus restaurant in the village.

Absolutely amazing location of the village and of the lodge itself. The great oceanview right from your bedroom. Nice host and incredibly cheerful owner's dog who accompanied us in every walk around the village. We want to come here again. It is worth driving 30 km by unpaved road. Super calm and peaceful place where you just are too close to nature
