Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of choice. Host Val was very welcoming and a real home from home. Great location to access eateries and railway station. Room was south facing and a little warm, We were unable to close one of the sash windows in the bedroom which we did highlight, so were woken by the dawn chorus each morning. There are no fancy USB ports, more a traditional style venue. Be aware that when you enter the porch hallway there is a small bell on left hand side to alert host of your arrival, and the guest lounge is first left. We blundered into owners private accommodation as nothing was signed, but that's due to so many repeat guests, which speaks for itself.

Val runs a very well managed small hotel with a large dash of old fashioned hospitality. Rooms are well appointed, spotlessly clean, and well maintained. Lovely views from the upper floors. Pickering is a small village but big enough to have several restaurants, take-aways and grocery stores, and is perfectly situated to explore the Yorkshire Dales. Delicious breakfast served by lovely people was the cherry on the top of a most pleasant stay.

Water pressure in the shower on the top floor was the only dampener on an excellent weekend.

Val was a wonderful host . Couldn't do enough for you. My father was unwell on our trip, but it didn't spoil our time staying there. Beautiful room , warm and cosy. Comfy Beds.Full tea tray fully stocked daily. Lovely Towels. Breakfast was amazing all local produce. Endless supply of tea and coffee. Val goes out of her way to make sure you have everything you need. She looked after us so well. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be staying there again. Can't wait to go back!! Thank you so much.

Nothing.

Good choice for breakfast. Clean towels every day which I wasn't expecting. Location is within walking distance of local pubs/restaurants and Pickering itself is in easy reach of many other towns. Evening sun allows you to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful wisteria tree.

Silly thing to say which something that can't be avoided is the pigeons. You park under the tree at your own risk, took me a while to clean my car when I got home 🤣

What an absolute gem of a guest house, I am so glad I chose to stay at The Old Manse, I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it. The location is perfect, it’s a short walk to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Station and Pickering town centre. The room we had was lovely, everything you want, even air freshener in the bathroom, which you rarely get. It looked over the garden, we had the window open and we were treated to an owl hooting and the dawn chorus. Val and her team couldn’t have been more lovely and welcoming. Lots of choice for breakfast from kippers to full English, all was delicious. A massive thumbs up from us and thank you for a comfortable relaxing weekend

The location and parking were excellent - the NYMR Pickering Station is just 5 minutes walk away. The breakfast was served in the conservatory and was virtuously faithful to the positive reviews (enormous tea pots a hit). The rooms were spacious and clean - they'd actually been redecorated just weeks before our stay. Staff all friendly and knowledgeable. An experience at a good price. It's just how a small hotel should be run.

The shower flow wasn't great and this would extend your time rinsing hair products out. Also had to run the shower a good while before the hot water came through at 7pm. The reduced water pressure may be a symptom of being on the top floor and so close to the water tanks? Reported a few things that needed attention and the owners were happy to fix it. I guess that for disabled people, accessibility may be an issue in this old traditional house due to the stairs.

Valerie couldn't have done anymore for us, shortly after booking, and knowing we had two flights of stairs to our room, I asked if it was possible to have a ground floor room we got a reply to say unfortunately no. On arrival however, we found that thankfully she had managed to come up with one, thanks to a young student allowed us to use his room after cleaning etc. We will always be gtateful as two flights of stairs by crutches would probably been nigh on unattainable for a near 80 year old with a ruptured Achilles. Thank you so much Valerie, hope to see you again in better circumstances

nothing at all

We were well looked after from start to finish. Everyone there was polite, friendly and attentive. They were eager to ensure that we had the best time possible. The room was all that was needed and the food was excellent.

The room was only accessible from outside the property, which was not ideal when it rained and the door had swollen with the damp, so it was difficult to open and close. There were not enough electrical sockets in easily accessible places. Obviously, in an older property like this one, it is not so easy to remedy this. Neither of these issues caused us any real problems.

Excellent breakfast with good choice. Dinner booked in advance for our first night was delicious and well presented. On arrival tea and homemade biscuits in the garden. Our accommodation in the "garden room" was a bonus in sunny weather. Val the owner very welcoming and concerned to offer everything we might need. Location a few minutes walk from town centre where we were meeting friends.
