An old hotel with a special atmosphere, situated in its own large garden (with rabbits nibbling on the grass...), It was quiet as it is on the town outskirts, but 5 min walk to Keswick center. Access to walking paths direct from the hotel. Parking available on site. We had a nice and relatively large room with a view to the bunnies....The staff was very nice.

Very nice comfortable suite. Newly decorated. Very clean. Ate one night in the restaurant as it was a fixed price 3 course meal which was first class. If you wanted only one or two courses the bar was the option. Wine list very reasonable as hotel prices go.

According to my booking confirmation we were due a newspaper daily included in the £260 B&B price which never happened. Not a major problem but if it is part of the deal it should happen. While breakfast buffet was excellent there was no option to order additional items such as poached eggs or smoked fish even at additional cost.

The dining experience was excellent as follows: * 5* dining - plenty of choice for starters/mains/desserts. * Good selection of wines to choose from * Food cooked to perfection * Staff efficient, friendly and helpful * Good breakfast choices

The breakfast experience could have been better - comments as follows: * Bowls and plates require to be renewed as they are worn and dark in colour which makes them appear dirty. In fact, we rejected many before we found crockery of a slightly better standard. * Would suggest that guests continue to select their own cereal/juices etc. However, we would prefer cooked breakfast to be served to the table, which we have experienced in other hotels/guest houses. This would reduce the amount of people queuing at the buffet, whilst staff are trying to replenish food because this is really quite chaotic.

Room. We requested a room inside the hotel but when we arrived we were told there were no rooms available for a three night stay but we could stay in one of the station houses. We did not want to do this , so the Manager was called and she arranged for a room for two nights with a change in location for the third night. The room was the furthest from the lift on the third floor and three beds in it. We had to accept that . On the evening of the third night the restaurant manager told us that we would not have to move. So we would like to thank the staff involved who helped to arrange this. As it was our 57th anniversary of the date we met we appreciated this effort.

Booking .com sent us a confirmation of a room in the hotel which obviously was not the case.

It’s an original Victorian hotel with lots of history. The location was quiet, as in an area of its own, in a cul-de-sac, but only minutes from the town centre. The old railway track walk started a couple minutes walk from the property, so easy access to a walk that was flat, which was also very picturesque and full of history. The view from the bedroom window over the hills and mountains was fabulous. The bedroom was serviced to a high standard daily, which they managed to do whilst you were at breakfast. The breakfast was of a high standard with plenty of variety. The evening meal you paid an additional sum for and a set price for 3 courses. There was a good choice on menu for all 3 courses, which was changed daily and the food was of a high standard and cooked and presented nicely and tasted delicious.

It looked a little “tired” in places, the skirting or some doorframes, for example, but was very nicely presented throughout.

The location and ambience of the hotel were excellent, the feel of a traditional hotel without the shabbiness one often gets in properties of this age. We particularly liked the comfortable, well-kept lounges and bar area. The gardens were very pleasant, staff helpful and the food (dinner and breakfast) was excellent. The centre of Keswick was far enough away to give a peaceful experience, but really only a 5 minute walk to shops and parks. We will definitely stay here again!

An earlier breakfast would have been helpful to those, like me, who want to make an early start for hillwalking and similar activities. Eight fifteen is a little later than I would have expected in the Lake District. Otherwise, everything about the hotel was to our liking.

All went well. The welcome , at check in the staff very helpful and friendly. The room although not large was warm and comfortable with views over the gardens and fells. The ambience throughout was welcome . Food choice and quality in the restaurant and bar was very good. The service excellent despite a full restaurant at breakfast . The evening dinner gave a good choice of all courses and the waiters were attentive. The hotel although old was tastefully modernised . Plenty of comfortable lounges to relax in. We will certainly return as the hotel is well situated too.

Nothing.

Excellent location a few minutes walk from the centre of Keswick. Comfortable room with a nice keen bathroom. The reception area is extensive with a huge bar area and lots of small adjoining rooms if you want to be a little quieter and more comfortable. Big restaurant.

There was nothing I didn’t like. It’s a comfortable hotel. It’s a Victorian hotel that’s been modernised. I’ve been asked to pick something I didn’t like. I was disappointed that the only dinner option was the three course meal for £45 per head. We had eaten lunch so we didn’t need a full dinner but there was no option to take a single course or even a bar meal. That didn’t really matter . It’s only a five minute walk into town where there are lots of restaurants.

Fantastic location. Very welcoming property & staff. Everything was clean & tidy & the staff were very attentive with nothing being too much trouble. Very comfortable seating in the lounges & bar areas with plenty of it. Would like to say an extra thank you to Leon (aka, Marti Pellow) for making breakfast & dinner more enjoyable as we were able to have some good banter with him.

Would've preferred to have had either a walk in shower or some form of assistance rails/handles for the bath as we both had difficulties getting in/out of the bath in order to have a shower. Would've liked a better view of the mountains rather than some waste ground with the rubbish bins, especially for the price & as it was advertised as with mountain views

Breakfast was a good standard cooked buffet with option of cereals and fruit salad etc. Hotel setting is very very good, location is excellent, parking included is great as Keswick is a pain for parking. Really very nice staff. I would like to stay again.

No continental style option breakfast, no option to order a breakfast fresh. No tissues in rooms, or solid soap.
