Breakfast... decent full English, sausages particularly good. Service from all staff excellent. Friendly yet respectful. Room and bed both comfortable, I slept very well. Plenty of hot water. Pleasant gardens to the front. Common parts spacious, clean and classy. Some older properties can seem a little faded, but this one has a period charm.

I suspect the breakfast tea-pot was not warmed before they filled it, the tea was never more than warm. Dinner was well-presented, however I thought too dear for the quality offered. After two meals I dined elsewhere. Bar prices on the high side. Location.... Ventnor is built on the side of a cliff, so everywhere you want to go to is either up or down a steep hill (or usually both). Belgrave Road is currently closed (even to pedestrians) due to a rock fall, which at the present time makes things even more difficult. I returned home fitter than when I arrived, which had not been my expectation.

Breakfast had a wide choice of food which was great. Evening meal was brilliant food and wine Afternoon tea was lovely. Great choice of delicious cakes and sandwiches. It was our Wedding Anniversary and the chef gave us a special selection of desserts with fancy writing on the plate too. Our room had wonderful views of the sea and the gardens of the hotel. We had a brilliant four night stay.

We had to park our car up the road round the back of the hotel So had to carry our luggage quite away. We did manage to park our car opposite the hotel when a space came available to load up our car when we left at the end of our stay.

It was beautiful & elegant, the staff were lovely. We only had breakfast, but the staff couldn’t do enough for us. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade. We would definitely stay again & maybe bring our dog as we were told they are welcome in some areas & rooms.

The only minor thing was on the way in to the hotel I didn’t recognise the entrance to reception, because you entered via an area where people were having ‘cream teas’. I walked by this & went around the side before coming back and asking the waiter… It was clearly behind him, but maybe a sign would be helpful.

The Royal Hotel is a real gem in an historic part of south Isle of Wight. The entrance and welcome are exceptional and the starring knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming.

My only complaint about was that the bathroom in our room, room 16, was tiny and not particularly as modern as I might have expected for. There were no rails or bars in the bathroom and getting in and out of the shower which was actually a bathtub felt very precarious. This did not take away from the enjoyment we had and the rest of our dealings with the hotel, but I think it is worth mentioning.

It is a very traditional hotel which has its pluses and minuses. The hotel is generally very comfortable, peaceful and clean. All the staff were helpful and pleasant. The view from our room was good and, although only classed as 'garden view', we could see the sea, which was a nice bonus. Our room was a good size. Also there were hooks to hang coats on - I know this sounds like a small thing, but so few hotels provide these and it is annoying when they don't. The bar is welcoming and convivial. I liked the outdoor pool.

The shower - we really like a walk in shower (as we never take baths), but it wasn't possible to have one. There was a shower over the bath, but the sides of the bath were quite high which made it a bit tricky getting in and out (and I'm quite tall). Also with no hand-held attachments, it's a bit difficult rinsing all over. We only had one dinner and no breakfasts. We were not impressed by the dinner - just too bland for our tastes. Breakfast is £20pp and we only want a slice of toast and a coffee, so we had this elsewhere.

The hotel is lovely, but appeared a little tired & rough around the edges. Younger staff were more polite than older staff. Fabulous breakfast! Certainly not 4 star quality, but a good deal to be taken advantage of before the price rise at Easter.

Older staff seemed to have issues with "not so rich people" taking advantage of staying at the hotel. Checking in for our double saver room seemed beneath them! Once we spoke to them, they decided they would dain themselves to chat with us. Stereotypical behaviours for a hotel living on the long gone bygone days!

The staff were exceptional and really made the stay a great experience. The gardens and pool area are beautiful and well looked after. There is a wonderful relaxed atmosphere.

Some of the bedrooms need attention. For the price, I would not expect chipped wood on the doors or paint marks on the furniture. Valance sheet is not on the bed correctly. Made the room look messy. I moved rooms after the first night, not because of the room. the second room was beautifully decorated and very clean. The managers were excellent and accommodating.

We like the range of choices they had for breakfast and dinner. The room was very nice and clean and we really enjoyed staying there. Overall the hotel was excellent and very nice as all the staff were very friendly. Caroline the receptionist was very helpful and had key knowledge and information about the different areas. Also Stefan the front of house manger and the team were all very nice taking too and very friendly.

There was nothing we didn't like as we really enjoyed our stay and we will be looking to going back soon.

A great stay with a nice room. Great location in a beautiful old building. Very friendly staff and breakfast was nice.

Unfortunately the bathroom let the room down. Although the hotel is 4 star, when we went into the bathroom you felt as if you’d been downgraded which was a bit of a shame. However it was clean, just a bit tatty and not what you would expect. It felt as the room had been refurbished but they’d forgotten to do the bathroom.

Had a friendly feel about it all the staff appeared to be local and were extremely helpful. The manager says struggling with our bags( my husband has cancer) and straight away he took the suitcase in the carpark and carried it down the steps from the car park. Extremely thoughtful and kind of him to do this.2 The breakfasts were excellent and sandwiches at lunchtime excellent

We thought the evening meal was over rated , compared to other 4 star hotel meals we have had in other hotels. It was our 20 wedding anniversary but no acknowledgment that we wrote this on form when we booked.
