The breakfast was delightful. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.
There were no adequate directions to enter the hotel from the car park, There are no directions for car parking on arrival. There are no hotel info paper guides in the room and only a computerised system. There is no bar/fridge price list available unless you use the computer system. We never did manage to work out why the phone messaging system kept flashing. The toilet seat didn’t match the system. One bedside light switch didn’t work. The bath anti/slip footing didn’t work and the bath was very slippery under the shower.

Proximity to the Harbor, bathroom size and a very comfortable bed.
The furniture in our room very worn and frayed, it needed updating years ago! Didn’t like the 4 steps up to our bathroom and closet, my husband fell down them going to loo the first night in the dark, and getting our luggage (5 heavy bags) up and down them then another 3 steps outside of our room (no railing) to the hallway & again in and of of the lobby doors there were even more steps which was very challenging! Appreciated the early check in but should be gratis if rooms are available as the cost is already higher than other hotels. Also the steep grade of the hill to get to Circular Quay could have been mitigated by a back entrance which would have eliminated at least half of it

Very grand traditional decor. The china displays in the main lounge were beautiful , the chandeliers, art work etc etc was impressive.
Furnishings including soft furnishings were well used, tired and worn. The dining chairs needed new upholstery and padding. The carpets in common areas were quite worn and faded. The room carpet was old.

The hotel is in a great location, the rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. The bathrooms are large and magnificent with double basins, shower and bath. The staff were very friendly and polite. The Highlander Bar had fabulous cocktails and nice food as well as unique decor.
The arrival places to park were very limited, and to unload our things from the car was difficult although the concierge was very helpful. However, I expected that the trolley could be brought to the car, but can't come down the steps. The car park was also not the easiest place to park in or get out of.

Location is ideal if you want easy access to the best of the inner Sydney waterfront: Circular Quay, Opera House, The Rocks, etc. I was also blown away by the proactive helpfulness on the part of staff...from the bellman who helped me with my luggage and nearby cafe ideas, to the front desk person who personally showed me around the main floor. People want to help you, and that was nice. I was put into a suite that blew me away with multiple rooms, great views, and a plaque on the wall that listed the famous people who had previously slept there! THAT was a first - and I resisted the temptation to add my name to the list. :)
This wasn't a big deal to me, but some aspects of the hotel decor look like they have seen better days. But if you are into a slightly faded sense of former glory and pageantry, this fits the bill!

Beautiful old world charm and unbeatable location. It really feels like a special event staying in such a special old hotel. Super comfortable beds and nice dark and quiet room with the curtains drawn. Bathroom was luxurious and everything was as expected. Staff are very friendly and the pool is a nice escape.
Poor circulation in the room and a musty smell that was quite overwhelming at first. There was no QR code on our table as advised by room service which meant we had no way to access this facility. We ended up ordering DoorDash because we found the process too difficult as we were getting ready to go out, which would not have been our preference. There was also no information page or channel on the tv with internet password and details about pool opening times, room service, check out or anything like that which would have been appreciated. We would have loved a few more options on the tv except just free to air.

The location was great at Opera House end of circular quay. The room was excellent with a large bathroom fully lined in marble. Great bed and furnishings with plenty of room to unpack and move around . We arrived early and we left our luggage to go exploring coming back after lunch to be given our keys and go up to our room. A useful note for others is to avoid the stairs up to Macquarie Street as there’s a lift next to them. Easy walk to the botanical gardens and the art gallery. Choice of trams , trains and ferries to explore Sydney and beyond.
Although we stayed for three days we didn’t have much time to see much more than the lobby and our room. We possibly had the worst view as we were only on the second floor looking over the roof of the police museum to the very active construction site of the old AMP building. Could just see through the trees to circular quay. I would like to go back and have the time to enjoy the pool ,restaurant and whisky bar.

The breakfast was good with excellent variety on offer. The only issue we found was that the coffee was luke-warm and bitter-tasting, unfortunately. Otherwise, we really enjoyed the breakfast and also the lovely ambiance of the dining room. We loved the Whiskey Lounge too.
The coffee was very average, being luke-warm and quite bitter. Also. the room we stayed in was quite 'musty' and needed a refresh to make it feel clean: perhaps some fresh flowers in a vase and/or pot-pourri might help. The Hotel is looking a little run-down since opening decades ago. It needs a good deep clean and perhaps a repaint of all the internal spaces and new furniture to replace the original fit-out which appears quite worn, to be honest.

Location at the top of Macquarie St is excellent. Very large room, comfortable and the bed was very good.
I paid over $500 per night for a top range room. The room was large, obviously, and no problem with the price, but its contents seemed miserly. For the money, I would expect a bottle of wine on arrival. There were only two breakfast tea tea-bags - come on, this is not a motel. Fresh milk would have been a bonus. Only one towel each per day, of only average quality. There was no folder of information to advise about room service, use of the phone, TV, internet. The furnishings were showing some signs of wear and tear. The plaque on the wall stated that the likes of Prince Charles, Tom Cruise and Mick Jagger stayed in the room. I wonder if their contents were as miserly.

Location is excellent! Opera house 500m walk and botanic gardens are right across the street - so beautiful! Breakfast was great, all staff were very courteous and helpful.
Pool deck is very small and lots of steps, so wasn’t as n option for my elderly mother. I couldn’t locate the sauna. Another minor gripe I had is that when our complimentary wine was delivered to our room, it was literally just the bottle of wine… we had to drink out of the bathroom glasses as I could not get the room phone to call anyone. The pre-dial buttons need to be replaced with instructions on how to contact staff. A couple of wine glasses delivered with the bottle would have made it much more enjoyable!
