I particularly liked the ambience of the hotel, with elements of naval memorabilia and history. The quiet bedroom and ensuite bathroom were spacious, with plenty of refreshment facilities, which were topped up daily, as were the toiletries. The staff were all pleasant and efficient and I was pleased to be able to leave my luggage in a locked storeroom, on the day of my departure. The hotel is ideally located for a visit to the Historic Naval Dockyard, the Spinnaker Tower, the Gunwharf Quays shopping centre, many bars and restaurants and the Gosport ferry,
During my visit, I tried hard to find anything that could be improved - and couldn't...there was a lot of attention to detail, to make the stay as pleasant as possible. If I had to be really picky, I would say that the breakfast was good and absolutely acceptable - but perhaps not as outstanding as I was expecting, given the nature of this interesting hotel! Also, there is very limited on-site parking, which cannot be booked, although this was clearly indicated before the visit and concessions are available through the hotel for public car parking.

Parking is limited but we were lucky as we grabbed the last spot. Reception staff were pleasant enough, a bit clinical but pleasant. The entrance hall is very nice and we loved the nautical theme that runs through the hotel, the bedroom was clean, well equipped and comfortable. The location couldn't be better as it's a 4 minute walk to the historic dockyard and spinnaker with a brilliant shopping centre and endless restaurants. The areas population is mainly students and naval bases which gives a pleasant atmosphere when out walking making for a brilliant day out. The hotel in a nutshell is fantastic value for money in a fantastic location plus the buffet breakfast is great!
Nothing, it was really well priced and com

Breakfast at the hotel was really good value for money. Most buffet style breakfasts that we encounter are sadly only luke warm. Our breakfast at the Royal Maritime was nice and hot, whatever they do to keep things warm is clearly working well. Great location for the Historic Dockyard and Gunnwharf Quays. Great little pool in the hotel.
Compared to our daughter's room our other 2 rooms were a little tired and in need of update, however, still satisfactory and good value for money. Horatio's restaurant in the evening was too cold to sit in and have dinner, although this was fine the next morning for breakfast. We decided to eat in the bar area which was fine. Sadly we didn't know that had we booked direct we would have received 10% discount because we are military veterans.

Hotel location perfect for our key destination areas, namely the Historic Docks, Gunnwharf Quays and Spinnaker Tower. we also went to the D Day museum and Arundel Castle. every venue was superb. The hotel itself was very good. Easy access to rooms, very good restaurant for breakfasts and Dinners. Bar food available also. Brilliant staff. Across the entire hotel every member of staff we met was very polite, dutiful, knowledgeable, and well dressed. Congratulations to you all, a brilliant team. Needless to say we enjoyed a wonderful 5 days in Pompey, and we will be back.. Thank you Royal Maritime Hotel.
Just maybe some bedrooms could do with a make over?

The Royal Maritime is the perfect compliment to a visit to Portsmouth Navy Yard. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this hotel. Full English breakfast, large library of naval/military volumes, pool, guest laundry, game room, bar and competent and helpful staff. Our room was upgraded to a nicely furnished, large one, with a comfortable bed and nicely sized bath. The room and hotel are clean, refurbished and yet still manages a charm owing to its one time use primarily by military families. It's a short walk to the Navy Yard, Mary Rose, bus, train and ferry connections. One suggestion: ask for the room upgrade.

My room was very comfortable. It had two windows. Through one was an excellent view of the Spinnaker Tower, which looked fabulous lit up at night. Through the other, was a view of HMS Warrior. There was a wide choice of food at breakfast, and dinner was excellent value for money, and of a high quality. All staff were very, very friendly and polite. the hotel could not have been better placed for visiting the Historic Boat Yard, Gunwharf Quay and Old Portsmouth. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Lovely and clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was lovely! Great range of food served as a buffet. Room we were in was clean. There was a fan and hairdryer which also came in handy. Close by to eateries and shops. Bathroom was big! Slept well. Loved the library.
We managed to get a parking space, but can see this being an issue for others arriving at different times. Our room. Furniture was tired, wallpaper was peeling in our room and we were way too hot, even with the fan on all day and night. No signage to tell you where everything was so we got very confused trying to find facilities, so had to ask reception. Hot tub had no water in it so we were unable to use it, which we were looking forward to relaxing in! No information leaflet, map, or guide on the hotel anywhere in the room or in the hotel which I think would help people feel more at ease knowing where everything was instead of asking reception all the time. TV was TINY. We were unable to see it properly so ended up not watching it.

The staff were excellent and went beyond to assist at all times, the hotel itself was clean and warm and contained everything one needs, the situation of the hotel was brilliant and right in the centre of things to do and places to go,for our first two nights we dined away from the hotel but we're a little disappointed so we decided for the rest of our stay to dine in the hotel and it really surpassed our expectations for taste and value for money, we would definitely return and fully intend doing so later this year.
The hotel deserves to be busier.

The location was excellent for the historic dockyard; Mary Rose Museum, Gunwharf Quays and The Spinnaker Tower all of which were the main reason for our short trip. They were all within 5 minutes walking distance of the hotel. All the staff we met were friendly and welcoming; the beds were really comfortable; the linen and towels were all clean; the room was a good size; great to have tea and coffee facilities in the bedroom; the free wifi was an added bonus. We didn't have breakfast which was included as we overslept! However, we had a great breakfast at the Bar and Block which was a two minute walk around the corner. The heating in the hotel we were told would not come on until 4pm in the afternoon which was a complete surprise as the weather was quite cold when we arrived. However. We were given a free standing heater which we had the use of the entire length of our stay.
Nothing really. The main observation was that the skirting around the bottom of the bath does really need to be changed as it showed clear signs of wear. The only other thing was the toilet brush - although "clean" these are unpleasant to see and very unhygienic. Other than that, I could not fault the hotel and would certainly stay here again

Very central location .room very clean and comfortable.the building is old with lots of character . Staff all very friendly .plentiful lovely hot water for bath and shower .breakfast good .would Def stay again
The building is old so it's to be expected it will be a little rough around the edges .we were on the third floor and carpets in a poor state but think prob due to decorating in progress
