This is a lovely guest house. We've stayed many times and tried others in the town, but we keep going back here. It's around a 15 minute walk into the centre of town with lots of shops, bars and places to eat. We like the independence of checking in; not having to deal with a jolly receptionist. Information comes via text which I like. We've had big rooms, smaller rooms but the quality is always good. We have family outside Retford so we'll be back and we'll be in the Lawns again. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room a hair dryer and there's also a very large kitchen which I'd never use, but if you're coming as a gang it's great. It's got fridges, freezers, iron ironing board etc. We enjoy staying there.

We loved our stay at The Lawns as it worked really well for us as a family. The family room was perfect as it had twin beds for our boys and a separate room leading off the main room with a large bed for us. This meant that our sons felt secure and we had space for ourselves. We had all we needed in the room (tea, coffee, water, glasses, cups etc.) as well as toiletries in the bathroom. We also were near to local amenities (supermarkets, restaurants) and also a short drive away from Sherwood Forest. It was a great location and also really comfortable. Tim and Stelle were fab hosts and made everything really easy for us during our stay. We'll definitely be back to stay at The Lawns again as there's loads to explore in the surrounding areas!

Our boys were a little hot in the room but there was a fan so we were able to quickly rectify this and they slept soundly. We were really happy with everything offered to us.

Very, very comfortable 2 week stay. The staff were warm and friendly and made our stay memorable. The property was very clean. The location is brilliant-10 minutes to Retford town, train and bus services. The Lawns is a beautiful historic building set in a picturesque location. Highly recommend and will stay again.

The room we had in the Lawns was great. The kitchen facilities were beyond our expectations. We could have easily cooked a full meal here and therefore wouldn't have to rely on eating out or carry-outs.

There was step on the threshold into our particular room and there was also a step up the shower in the toilet. It would be easy to forget they were there.

Lovely large room with very good shower room. Water & biscuits a nice touch. 2 kitchens with all equipment good - meant we could shop when we arrived, rather than carry food with us. Walking distance to town centre for pub/restaurants & shops for any essentials.

Entrance to car park is a bit awkward as we have a car with very limited ground clearance. Fridge went off whilst we were out for the day, had to throw away some perishables, but transferred others to fridge in adjoining kitchen.

I have stayed at the Lawns a number of times and it never disappoints. The rooms are clean, quiet and well proportioned. The kitchen is clean and has all the appliances I need. It’s also an easy walk into town.

We always seem to arrive in the hottest week of the year and the rooms can get quite hot.

Room clean & comfortable, could do with somewhere to hang the towel near shower. In general was a very pleasant stay with some nice homely touches, i.e. daily cookies left in bedroom

Pillows were a little hard & high for our likes, but some like them like that. Stairs were quite steep for my wife, but manageable. Fridges were playing up in kitchen area unfortunately.

Booking was easy and subsequent contact with the hotel was excellent. Welcome from staff was very warm. Kitchen facilities very good.

Not much! Perhaps a clearer explanation that although kitchen facilities were available for breakfast, you had to bring your own food.

Nearly everything! Clean, comfortable and the self-catering kitchens a great idea. Contained everything one could want.

Our bedroom, no5, was at the rear, overlooking the patio/garden. Immediately outside the window was a powerful floodlight (security?) Which the blinds did little to dim as the light came round the sides and across our pillows. Sleeping in that sort of light was intermittant at best! Should add the light was on ALL NIGHT. Have to give everything else 10/10 but that was a definite no-no. To anyone thinking of staying there, ask for a FRONT ROOM.
