The room was spacious with nice natural lighting and a very strong heater. The location was great with Sainokawara park practically next door and a few popular restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the accomodation. Miki-san was a lovely host and made me feel at home. The traditional Japanese style breakfast was also delicious.

The dinner and breakfast were beautifully prepared and a fun experience to eat. The onsen uses the same "cloudy" medicated water as the other famous onsen in the town. But is private to the hotel so often quiet or even empty. I've never felt so relaxed. The provided yukata were comfortable. The rooms and bed linens were clean. The host at reception was very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Providing good conversation with her great English.
The lobby was great and had cold barley tea and coffee. However I like milky coffee and the small milk pots each only had a couple drops. But this is just my personal coffee preferences.

Amazing experience (I stayed 3 nights). - amazing staff (in particular the lady in charge who speaks English and is very helpful (how to wear a yukata, how to bath in onsen, explaining local delicacy) - location: walking distance from everything but also a more charming place than traditional downtown kusatsu hotel (especially next to the park) - food ! Please book breakfast and at least try dinner once (very generous 12+ courses even if more pricey than regular plate but quality and quantity were insane) - large rooms with futon and beautiful view (only 10 rooms in this hotel), Onsen quiet and always on - yukata + kimono
Nothing I hope to comeback one day

If you are looking for a hotel for your stay at Kusatsu Onsen, look no further than Kusatsu Hotel Bekkan Wata no Yu. My family and I recently stayed here for three nights and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is run by Miki and her husband who are both lovely. I spoke mostly with Miki but from the first, she was so kind and responsive to any questions we had. To get there, we took the express bus (pay at the end of the ride and you can pay by credit card) from Karuizawa Station which drops you off at the Lawson Kusatsu Bus Terminal (1.5 hour ride) and from the bus terminal it is about a 15 minute walk to the hotel. Although the town is pretty small and everything is fairly close, the hotel is conveniently located a short six minute walk from the main square where the yubatake is located (all of those pictures you see online of the big hot spring when you look up Kusatsu Onsen). On the way to the yubatake, you walk through Sainokawara Street which is where a lot of the shopping and restaurants are concentrated. Each room at this hotel has its own toilet and sink but bathing is done in the hotel’s public onsen (separate men and women’s facilities) on the first floor. Since the bathing facilities are shared, we did have overlap with other hotel guests when using the hotel onsen. For an additional charge you can order breakfast and/or dinner but be sure to order ahead of time to make sure they can accommodate your request. Miki’s husband is the chef and we tried breakfast and dinner and they were both delicious and definitely a must try experience. Traveling tip: a lot of the restaurants are closed on Wednesdays so if your stay includes a Wednesday, that’s a great day to schedule your meals at the hotel. We didn’t want to deal with the bus on the day we were leaving so we took a taxi back to Karuizawa Station which Miki helped us book the day before.

Everything. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and a wonderful sanctuary! Even though I was only in Kusatsu Onsen for one night, a large part of time was spent enjoying Watonoyu because its delight matched the amazing sights of this charming village. Watanoyu’s miracle Onsen (skin was so soft after!), the beautiful rooms, the excellent meals (a must do!) and the warm hospitality of Miki and her team has made this an unbeatable experience. Location wise it’s also perfect to experience all that Kusatsu Onsen has to offer.
I can’t find a fault even if I tried.

Where to begin … ? After 5 crazy days in Tokyo, i went to Kusastu in order to relax and soak in the thermal hot springs. Staying at Watanoyu Annex was the best decision ever. Miki and her husband run this beautiful establishment (perfect combination of traditional & modern). Miki speaks perfect english and will immediately make you feel warmly welcome. I got lucky enough to get a room facing the river … this relaxing sound would get me to sleep like a baby every night. After visiting all the onsen of Kusatsu, it was always a pleasure to get to the hotel’s onsen for some quiet time before dinner! You would get a fresh set of towel & a yukata (kimono) everyday, as well as a toothbrush & a pair of socks. Finishing with the sauna and cold bath got me so relaxed every time ! Miki’s husband will cook the most incredible breakfast & dinner for you ! Some of the most tasty and poetic meal i’ve ever had… The tasting menu will be printed for you ! Such a nice attention ! I really enjoyed the tiny flower bouquets in every corner of the hotel. So subtle and poetic. The real japonese elegance ! They are really devoted to their business and it shows. I cant wait to come back with my family for some more relax time :)

Excellent location, next to Sainonkawara Park, which had the best open air Onsen and Foot Bath area. Within easy walking distance of the town center and the Yubatake. And best of all, Miki (the owner) and her staff were outstanding hostesses! Miki, in particular, went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. The room we had was spacious and had a western-style bed. We definitely, will return to this hotel in the future!
There was nothing that we didn’t like.

Everything was perfect! First of all the service was incredible, Mikki was the warmest host always making you feel like home, she even spoke a few words in Spanish making me feel extra welcome. The room was very big and incredibly clean a cozy. We added dinner on the first night and every dish was delicious!!!!! The onsen was also lovely and had the luck of being alone every time I went to take a dip. I’m looking forward to be back, our stay made our trip to Kusatsu a dreamy experience 💗

The property is modern with a Japanese touch, very comfortable and the view from the room is very nice. The room is spacious and there is an indoor onsen to relax after going out the whole day. Breakfast is also good. The location is convenient, an interesting walk to the Yubatake with a number of snack places and restaurants, an interesting walk to the centre of Kusatsu. A famous outdoor onsen place is located 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel, you can walk through the garden, definitely worth visiting. The biggest attraction of the hotel is the service, Miki san, exceptional service, very hospitable and assist us immensely during our stay. We had a flat tire and she helped us a lot to get it sorted which is very important as she is fluent in English and can help us to communicate with the repair shop.
