This stay was so amazing. First off the biggest pro is the staff. They were amazingly friendly and incredibly helpful with everything we needed. Honestly I’ve never met friendly people. The stay was very traditional with beds on the floor and onsens to soak! Breakfast was included every morning which was great. There was a laundry service which they did for us for ¥1200 which was very reasonable. We had dinner there twice in their restaurant which is open some nights. Food and drink were great and well priced.
We didn’t bring proper snow shoes and so we had to use the bottom entrance. The main entrance is at the top of a slope which was covered in snow. We didn’t plan properly though!

Our host Kenya was very nice and hospitable. Breakfast was prepared for us every morning and he regularly checked in to make sure we were comfortable. The room was comfortable, the heating worked well, housekeeping was done regularly, the hotel was very clean and tidy and also felt very homey. The dry room also had a convenient dedicated entrance which then led into the genkan which made coming back with my snow gear super easy. A wonderful place to stay and I will stay again next time I visit Nozawa.
I personally have a hard time with communal amenities so sharing a communal toilet was difficult, but they were kept very clean, and the toilet seats and bidet were heated (it was mid-winter so greatly appreciated)

The hospitality has warmth like a homestay. The lovely owner+operator lovely couple goes all out to make the stay pleasant. Other than offering their own meals options, they give good recommendations to other F&B. They seem to be always available to assist when you needed them. The ski rental shop they recommended allows customers to store rented equipment overnight at no additional charges. As it’s said in other reviews, it’s a short walk to the ski rental, which is just beside the ropeway and lifts. Ski pass available at a discount from the hotel. Newly renovated toilets. If you drive there is parking available.

Such a friendly, clean, fabulous place to stay. We travelled as a family of 4 (kids aged 13&10) and we all loved it! Don’t be nervous about the shared bathroom - we often had the onsen to ourselves, but also if someone else is there it is not a big deal! Such a fabulous thing to have after a day of skiing. Our family room was very large so plenty of room for all of us and our mountain of snow gear, and it was in a great location - a short walk to the ski fields or into the centre of town. Kenya could not be more accomodating. We loved it and hope to be back again.

Homey cozy beautiful hotel! With traditional Japanese tatami, futon and room architecture. The staff are amazing and the location is superb! Very close to the Nagasaka Gondola and slopes, there is also a free snow sled shuttle that runs from Nagasaka to Hikage. It is within the center of the town so restaurants, cafes and amenities are a close walk nearby. Breakfast was lovely and I enjoyed the very hot bath as well ! The shared bathroom is clean and easy to access and not troublesome. There is also a small kitchenette with fridge and hot water and teas which I found very useful.

Bamboo-Hill is the perfect spot if you’re in NozawaOnsen. It’s in a good location, very close to the gondola, rental shops and restaurants. The room is relatively spacious by Japanese standards. The staff are incredibly friendly and willing to help with anything. The breakfast was filling and always had an interesting array of food. The onsen is perfect after a long day of skiing. I would definitely return to Bamboo Hill!
The beds were a little hard but it was manageable.

This is a beautiful older basic style of traditional Japanese B&B . Family run business and very hospitable mother and son who run the inn. If you are looking for 5 star modern then this is not you , but if you want traditional charm and a more authentic Japanese experience then this you ! It’s very well priced as well . Has an onsite Onsen and breakfast is mainly Japanese style so very healthy. Furthermore My daughter got influenza A they helped us get her to the local Dr, get medication, brought her fresh fruit and hydration drinks , gave us masks , they just go above and beyond. Thank you for your kindness.

Very good service of Bamboo Hill Sasaoka hotel. I catched the last bus to reach Nozawa Onsen at 10:30pm on Dec 22,2023. It was heavy snowing and lost my way when i get off the bus. Fortunately, i am so lucky that a New Zealand guy helped me to find Bamboo Hill hotel. When i reached Bamboo Hill hotel, the son of the owner helped me to carry the luggage to the 1st floor. He spent 45 mins and helped me to check the train and bus schedule to snow monkey park and temple during breakfast. Good and relax to have onsen after snowboarding at night in hotel. It is worth to stay in Bamboo Hill Sasaoka next time.

Breakfast each day was amazing - Japanese style which varied every morning. Fuelled us well for the snow day ahead. The family who runs the property lives on site and is super helpful, including running down to town to help purchase discounted lift passes (bring cash for this). Properly was clean overall.
Shower / bathing times at the properly is only available between 4-9pm. Having arrived at 10pm the first night, we were left to find the nearest public onsen to bathe at (there’s one 100m away). A late check in meant that we were just left our room key at the front counter.

The cleanliness and efficiency of the rooms and staff. The little extras like spare toothbrushes and toothpaste. The amazing breakfasts every morning were excellent for a days start to skiing. The location easy walk to slopes and town. The Japanese tradition and culture is respected and preserved. Can’t wait till I return😀
The cute building, service, location, staff, breakfasts, kitchen facilities available to visitors, and cleanliness.
