Very comfortable room with tea and coffee making facilities which we like. Super shower and toiletries. Excellent helpful staff both in reception and the restaurant. Easy car parking facilities. Able to cater well for my celiac and allergies. Loved the top up water machine.

I wasn’t aware that the rooms didn’t get serviced each day. It didn’t matter so much as reception gave us extra coffee and milk and we had plenty of towels. I guess if we had asked the room would have been serviced but as we were only there two nights this was no big deal.

Staff are super friendly and helpful. It's a clean spacious hotel and our room was huge and very comfortable. All the things you would expect= tea/coffee, robes. slippers (though very big slippers!) , hairdryer, nice argan oil toiletries, extra pillows, air conditioning, iron, room service, view of cathedral. We only ate in the bar but the snacks were freshly made and good value and the staff are lovely.

We had ordered room service breakfast one day which was ok but the toast was cheap sliced and bendy and the tea and coffee were already in a mug with no tea/coffee pots so not hot. We didn't order it the 2nd day but it arrived anyway, but they removed the charge with no problem. It's an eco hotel so I appreciate that, but the towels were a bit small ( need bath sheets please) especially for my 6'2'' husband!

From our arrival - which started with us being upgraded to a better room, free of charge - to our departure, every aspect of the hotel, but especially all the staff we had dealings with, was a delight. The accommodation was excellent; the daily breakfast, better than many we've tasted in a long time, was scrummy, and we received nothing but the best of service across the board. The staff in particular could not have done more to make our stay a very pleasant one. One thing is certainly guaranteed - we'll be back!

Nothing could have improved on the service we received at the hotel, which more than met our expectations.

The room was lovely and comfortable. Although it was a little bit tired it was clean. Best nights sleep I've had in a long time. Stuart who checked us in was superb, taking his time with each guest making them feel welcome and answering all questions.

Our experience at check out was not to the same high standard, although it was adequate. She seemed uncertain on local attractions and directions. Breakfast was disappointing. The young waiter who greated us needs more training, I think he was a trainee. Having asked us if we had visited before he walked off. We had to ask another waiter about the breakfast service. The Danish pastries were small and appeared dry and unapertising. The bacon also looked unappealing, I didn't try it.

Staff at front desk were very helpful and friendly. The room was a good size and had comfortable chairs as well as a comfortable bed. It was good to have a fridge in the room. Being able to open the window was a blessing

The coffee machine had no instructions and was therefore not used, and there was no written information in the room regarding restaurants etc. We had dinner on first night and decided not to repeat. Breakfasts were generous, but plates weren't always hot. We expected more from a hotel like this than coffee out of a self dispensing machine.

Good central location, friendly staff, comfortable bed, en suite with a bath. Very useful to have the mini fridge and to be able to leave our luggage for no extra charge both pre and post check out. Good to have a kettle in the room (at first we thought there wasn't one but we found it hidden in a cupboard along with teabags etc). The dark heavy furniture may not be to everyone's taste but modern furniture probably wouldn't suit this Grade 2 listed building. A little noise from the road but not a big issue. Breakfast was too expensive when all we wanted was a light breakfast, so just booked 'room-only'.

Good selection of both cooked English breakfast and continental buffet style, cooked food nice and hot, could request an omelette or porridge to order, pleasant breakfast seating tables not too close together. Great central location right in centre of Durham with on site parking. Room comfy bed, spacious and warm possibly bit too warm, really helpful staff gave us local recommendations for evening meal which was spot on!

Rooms bit too warm, air conditioning didn’t work very well however quick call to housekeeping and they quickly brought us a standup air conditioning unit so that was great.

We asked for a room with a city view and this was provided as we could see the cathedral and some of the castle roofs. The room was quiet and very comfortable but at the back of this large hotel in a kind of annex, not a real problem. All staff were helpful and we had no problems other than a slowish wifi with no password security; I preferred not to use it therefore given we had a short stay. The breakfast room was very attractive and spacious indeed; breakfast was very appealing as were the helpful staff. The overall location was excellent being in sight of the centre and about 10 - 15 minutes walk from the station. I rated it GOOD but really I would prefer to assign VERY GOOD.

Nothing really - just a shame about the wifi. I would prefer password protection in an ideal world.

Right on the edge of the old city, the hotel is in a great location. My room was large, the bed very comfortable, and the shower excellent. The Nespresso machine was a nice touch in addition to the usual kettle. Really great and friendly staff in the dining room for breakfast, and good porridge, too.

I hadn't anticipated the roar of traffic outside (I was in a riverside room) - bear this in mind if you choose a room facing the river, as the more-or-less vehicle-free city centre means everyone surges around the road outside. (It's not loud at night, so it didn't keep me awake even with the window open.) And the hotel is huge and confusing - I got lost several times and met lots of other guests in the same boat. Better signage, please!

Perfect location for tourist to old town. Staff were all above average in delivering professional service in a pleasant manner. Breakfast was self service with option of items being brought from kitchen. Everything was well cooked, in a relaxed atmosphere. On site parking at £11 per 24 hours which for the location I thought good value.

Room temperature had to be controlled by a combination of opening the window and using ventilation system (which wasn’t a problem as facing onto a quiet car park and it was cold outside). Might be an issue in summer, I don’t know. We had a meal in the dining room on the first evening and unfortunately we did not think curry dishes really worked however there was no problem exchanging for nice fish dish. Drinks were expensive.
