The setting of the hotel on the edge of its own lake is spectacular. We had a lake-view room and enjoyed sitting on the patio facing the lake and old ruined castle. The concierge was very helpful in giving us tips for touring the Ring of Kerry. The room service staff were helpful and pleasant
Our room was lacking in modern facilities, no air conditioning, extremely badly lit and dark. The bathroom was very outdated with a shower that only gave a strong burst of either freezing cold or boiling hot water. I did not enjoy the breakfast, although there’s a good choice. I found the food bland not tasty. I think this hotel is overpriced considering it’s poor facilities. In addition they put us in a separate wing very far from the main part of the building.

Where to begin. I didnt have any pre-expectations going to this hotel, so I was quite blown away at how good it is. Location is insanely beautiful right on Killarney lakes with a mountain view and a ruined castle in the foreground, and also with nice on-grounds walks to historic places like Muckross Abbey. Very much feels like an old world classy hunting lodge type hotel, something like The Shining could have been filmed here. Lots of history, charm and class on display. The food was great - the restaurant was fully booked so we couldn't get a seat (I only tried an hour beforehand), but the meal I had in the lounge was one of the best I had in Ireland (hake) and bordering on fine dining (I passed my compliments to the chef several times). Staff were all young, from around Europe, charming, engaging, had good camaraderie between themselves and looked like they were having fun, which speaks to great back of house management. We only stayed one night and regretted we had to leave, next time I'll stay longer. This is a 4 star hotel that felt like it should be 5 star. Highly recommended.
Not a gripe but some areas of suggestion: - right on a lake but didnt seem to be many lake based activities going on, eg kayaking, rowing, sailing etc......I didnt enquire but didnt see anybody on the lake doing anything, other than walking around it. Is there is an opportunity to expand and put a water activity centre? Maybe national park restrictions dont allow it - we were in the new wing, which is not connected by elevators to the reception and old area...so bit of a trek upstairs, along the first floor, then back downstairs to get to the room. Fine for us but older folk might struggle with their bags or the stairs. On check-in a porter did bring our bags to the rooms.

At breakfast we were seated at a table with an exceptional view of the Killarney Lakes. Our room was overlooking the lakes and was breathtaking every morning when we opened the curtains. Despite the inclement weather there is a variety of things to do and see. No bad weather - Just Poor Clothing. Muckross House and Killarney Park is on your doorstep and there are magnificent walks winding through the Park and straddling the lakes. A walk to view the Gap of Dunloe is a must. The Hotels location is ideal - Just on the outskirts of the town. Ideal for a quiet relaxing holiday/break. THE STAFF AND SERVICE WERE EXCEPTIONAL. ALL FRIENDLY, CHATTY AND ALL DELIGHTED TO SPEAK ABOUT THEIR TIME IN SERVICE AT THE HOTEL.
There is not much to dislike about this Hotel. Location for us was perfect. The meals were very good and you must dine in main restaurant. We both had fish dishes and the food was exceptional.

The historical castle stroll was special and perfect. Dining experiences for dinner and breakfast were exceptional. The bathroom and shower experience were overall very good. I loved all the history on the walls and throughout the hotel. I loved the library and special relaxing rooms that overlooked the lake. I enjoyed the pianist during the evening hours. I am the GM for Los Angeles Airport Marriott and Renaissance Hotels; I oversee 1,500 rooms and I was very impressed with your family run hotel. Marriott is a special brand due to the history of the Marriott family. This is a special hotel with your family history and will stay longer on my next visit to Ireland. I was very impressed with the details of the hotel.
The bedding (Sheets and pillows) and towels could have been higher quality.

Fantastic view of the lake and surroundings area. Lots of history. Room does not have all the new amenities like USB ports and I was surprised to see the fan in the room. Hallways were really warm when we were there, but we just opened a window to keep the room cooler. We got an off season rate and it was great. I don't think I would stay here in season for the price. While the view is WONDERFUL!, the experience seemed a little stuffy for our taste.
The service at the bar could have been a little more friendly. While it is a beautiful area, the hotel is just a little too formal or stuffy for our taste.

Where to begin? Set in an idyllic spot with views of the lake, a medieval castle, surrounded by great walks, it is a beautiful historic building, with fabulous customer service, and great food. The hotel is a bit out of town, and the town seems to have a great vibe - so you could walk into town if you wanted to go to a pub, and catch a taxi back. However, we were happy to stay in the hotel in the evenings, we found the bar to be so lovely, reasonable prices, and the bar menu fantastic. We loved the wings! One evening, the bar hosted the O'Donoghue Sisters who sang and played live music on a variety of instruments. We were inclined to go to bed but Jerome encouraged us to stay. It was an amazing night - not overly crowded, just perfect. One afternoon we ate the scones, which were delicious - with lemon curd, strawberry jam and clotted cream!! I definitely recommend the scones. The room was spacious and the breakfast incredible (a variety of buffet hot and cold items as well as a choice from an a la carte menu). The customer service at this hotel we found to be superb. I highly recommend this gorgeous property.
For us, we like to have a fridge in our room for soft drinks mostly. So, a fridge would be great.

The old part of the hotel has a wonderful old world feel to it. The New England fits fairly seamlessly with the old but is full of modern conveniences. The walk from the new Wing to the breakfast area was breathtaking. You can go outside and walk along the lake and past the ruin on your way to breakfast. It was the most amazing morning walk I've had in decades. Our room was quite large with a sitting area & desk. It was bit cool for the patio but it would be an amazing spot later in the season. The breakfast was a full buffet in a lovely room and evening food and drinks overlook the ruin lit up at night. Our dinner was fantastic and sitting in the library with drinks was relaxing. The staff could not have been kinder or more helpful. We had a delightful few nights stay. We hope to be back soon!

The location, property and staff are wonderful. The bed was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. My own bed pales in comparison.
The superior room with lake view overlooking the hot tub and pool were warm/hot in the afternoon. This meant that, because the windows do not open more than 2 inches, the room did not cool down enough for a comfortable sleep until well into the early hours of the morning. While there were many food options in the Bistro for lunch/dinner, they were either a hit or miss (bland and/or too salty). The breakfast was always very good.

The setting was amazing, with a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. The hotel itself was warm and comfortable during the cold March weather. The food in the restaurant for dinner was very tasty and breakfast was exceptional. There was lots of space in the hotel, beautiful rooms and areas for relaxing in front of the log fires. The bedrooms and bathrooms had all the amenities required including tea/coffee making facilities, tissues, fan, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap, body lotion, safe, robes & slippers, fresh water available throughout the hotel. The beds were extremely comfortable. The hotel was packed for St Patrick’s weekend, but there was no noise on the corridors at night, it was unbelievably quiet and peaceful. The hotel was spotlessly clean. The thermal suite was beautiful and so relaxing. The outdoor hydrotherapy facilities were refreshing and unique. A special word for the staff, they were exceptional. This includes staff at reception, the staff at breakfast and dinner, the bar staff and the cleaners. Each one of them were so friendly and helpful. They could not do enough for you. We will return to Killarney just to stay in the Lake Hotel.

The location and grounds of this hotel are SPECTACULAR. Book a lake view room, the views are incredible. We drove the entire ring of Kerry and my husband and I agreed the top 3 views included the ones right from bed in our room.. Bed is so comfy, breakfast was very nice with, again, views from the dining room. VIEWS EVERYWHERE! If I haven't convinced you to stay here, come at least for lunch. Easily one of our favorite hotels we have ever stayed in. Truly unforgettable. Very close to Killarney... 5 minutes drive. Worth it.
The Jacuzzi was closed for renovations :(. Major bummer for our stay. The shower heads need to be changed, they are really quite bad when considering how nice everything else was
