Super clean, and excellent location close to everything, but out of the way enough to be quiet. A lot more character than the high-rise hotels. Owner was so helpful in sorting out all kinds of things - we made some arrangements through him, and some independently, but we should have gone through him for everything taxis, tours, rental car, he really looked after us well for everything he arranged (we had a very bad experience with something we arranged ourselves through Viator/TripAdvisor that wouldn't have happened if we had just booked through the hotel owner). While we were there, breakfast was being offered at a the nearby hotel Kriti. At first we thought it was a little expensive, but for Crete prices the breakfast through the hotel was a good deal. It also let us see a bigger, newer hotel - nice, but no personality. We were happy to be at the Filoxenia.

The property doesn't look too promising from the outside - though that's not unusual in older areas - and it just so happened the road was also getting paved so some times there was noise or dust (but it'll be very nice when it's done). And of course while it's half a block from the ocean, and you can see the ocean from the balcony, if money was not object an ocean view would've been nice. But inside, especially in the rooms, everything is wonderfully maintained and very very clean, and waterfront would have been double or triple the price, and probably noisy. For us, this was perfect, especially the location where various people in our party could come and go to different activities.

The property is 1 minute from the seashore and cafés. It’s also a 5-minute walk to the Venician port. The famous Drandaki bakery (wood-fired oven) is also minutes from the hotel. You are close to the old port and yet the price remains very low. There is very little traffic down the street the hotel is on, so it will be nice and quiet. The room was impeccably clean. The owner is a gem and will welcome you in true Cretan style, with water and a bite to eat when you check in!

It is so close to the sea you can smell it. Also there are many bars, coffee shops and restaurants 50 m from it. Central location. Now the hosts, who are amazing, really great human beings. They welcomed us with traditional raki and made our stay so enjoyable. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. They have everything you would need (AC, hair dryer, comfy bed, shampoo/shower gel), a terrace for a cup of coffee in the morning. We will def come back to Filoxenia again :)

Everything was perfect

The managers of the hotel were very kind and served us a welcome aperitif. He was very helpful - we had troubles with the car we rented and he contacted the manager of the agency and spoke with him in Greek to assist us. The hotel is near the touristic places. The excellent breakfast was served in a very near hotel. I recommend this hotel

A kettle for coffee

On arrival the owner greeted us with some appitizers and a welcome drink. The hotel is super clean. Friendly enviorment and are willing to help. I needed a clinic for my daughter on my stay and they helped me a lot. Thanks.

Would have loved to have an electric kettle in the room but still i am not disappointed as they had in the lobby.

Run by a lovely couple who provided all information about Chania, from where to eat, what to do, best beaches etc. Welcomed with a delicious snack of marinated fish, salad, wonderful olives and 2 different types of raki! The hotel is right on the edge of the pedestrianised old town with free parking right outside. 30 seconds walk to waterside restaurants and 7 mins walk to old town centre. For the position and price I’d find this hotel and the owner’s hospitality hard to beat. We were very happy with our stay.

Hospitality of the host was great! We were welcomed with a smalll meal with two types of raki. Then he told us where to have a great dinner. Breakfast was in the near-by hotel and it was delicious. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Close to the old town, close to free parking, far enough to have quiet night.

No disadvantages, although the price was above average for sure.

The hotel is located in the center of Chania, within walking distance of all the important places nearby. Our room was pleasant and clean. However, the most remarkable aspect of this hotel is the exceptional owners. They have been incredibly helpful from the very beginning until the end of our stay. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted with delicious treats and provided with wonderful travel tips. I would like to express my gratitude to them once again for their kindness and assistance.

Amazing location, steps away from the water and a strip of restaurants. Right round the corner from the harbour but tucked away from the general bustle. There is a small beach that you can get to via steps down from the promenade. Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful.

Nothing really. Furniture in rooms is maybe a little dated but that's also part of the charm and they installed new TVs while we were there so there is little to complain about in terms of rooms.

Everything - I was greeted warmly by the staff with a lovely snack of sardines, salad and raki in the small bar on site. Map & diections of the area. Room is lovely with great A/C., cleaned by Angela (used to live in my home town!!!!) Quiet and close to everything!!!!
