Very nice small boutique hotel. Easy walk to Getsmani and old town.

Just a block north, the area was a little sketchy. Even the hotel said to take a cab in that direction.

The location was fabulous, close to the walled city. Breakfast was simple but very tasty. The breakfast staff was very nice.

So noisy! Colombian drivers use the horn as much as the brakes. It’s on a side street but very little sound insulation.i was exhausted by the time my stay was over. No fault of the hotel but car horns honking all night.right outside the room.

The hotel itself is beautiful, we really liked the little pool downstairs and the fact that the hotel is located near almost everything. We could walk to a majority of places, if not, we took an Uber which didn't cost that much. The Wi-Fi worked great too! Furthermore, the staff was very friendly, and helpful, and our room comfortable. We needed to print out a document and the staff helped us with that immediately. We had some issues with the air conditioner, but the moment we asked about it, the staff did their best to fix it (it was a bit of a noisy air conditioner, but that was fine). Overall, we had a very good stay at Akel house hotel.

There wasn't really much we disliked about our stay, I just have some suggestions: The breakfast was nice, but maybe a suggestion to have some more breakfast options? We had eggs and bread/arepa with fruit for breakfast every day, for 8 days. And maybe another suggestion to have a rack in the room for wet towels? There wasn't really a rack to hang our towels and wet clothes (after a beach trip, for example). We were with 3 in the room, and we had to find random places in the room to hang our wet clothes/towels. That's all!

The first room we got was not what we expected at all, but when we talked to the front desk about it they were incredibly understanding and were able to give us a different one, even giving us the option to pick our room. Super helpful and sweet people both at the desk and cleaning the rooms/serving breakfast. There was also someone at the desk 24/7 which was really nice. The hotel itself was also in a very good and safe location as it was in walking distance to the main streets of Getsemani (only two blocks away), the old fort (5-10 minute walk), and just a 5 minute walk from the clock tower, but not so much that it was loud. I enjoyed having everything I needed nearby without having to get a taxi or an uber.

Our tv wasn't working our entire stay and the soundproofing within the bathrooms wasn't great. The hotel itself is beautiful, but it needs some regular maintenance. There was a leak in our bathroom ceiling just above our heads whenever we tried using the sink and the room above us had used the shower. I would still stay here again, but I think it was a little bit expensive considering issues like that one.

Extremely well located and very authentic style, great breakfast and service and really lovely staff. The room is also really spacious, we felt really safe as there is 24 hour reception and they keep the front door locked, so you feel really secure in the property and with your belongings too.

There were some holes in our bathroom, I think this is because of the authentic lay out and style but it meant there were a few little ants - but nothing we haven’t been used to.

The staff was so amazing and helpful. My flight was changed and I showed up at 830 am delirious after travelling, they were so so nice and let me check in early so I could rest while waiting for my friends to arrive. Also when we went to an island for a few days they let us keep some stuff there until our return. They whole staff was so friendly and helpful. Place was clean and breakfast was great. Definitely recommend and would stay again. It’s also in a great location

The room was really spacious, clean, and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was small but with a big shower. Nice location and friendly stuff.

Breakfast was pretty bad.. and it was kind of noisy. At 5am someone started to play music super loud, so, we had to scream out of the window to make it stop.. it was Sunday morning, so, it wasn't nice to be waken up that early when you want to rest.

Great location, close to the night life but on a quiet side street so the noise did not affect us. The pool area does not seem to be in use and feels more like a storage area - wasn't an issue for us but worth bearing in mind if you're looking for a place with a pool. The room was spacious, comfortable and cool.

There is no key/card for the main door so you have to wait for the staff to let you in which is a minor inconvenience. We never had to wait more than a minute or so though.

I recently stayed at Akel House Hotel in Cartagena's vibrant neighborhood of Getsemani and had a delightful experience. The spacious and comfortable bedroom, adorned with antique charm, easily accommodated me and my friends. The helpful staff provided great recommendations and made our stay enjoyable. The hotel's location allowed us to explore nearby restaurants and bars easily. The only downside was the limited breakfast options, but overall, I recommend Akel House for a charming and comfortable stay in Cartagena.
