Staff were excellent; friendly, eager to help, attentive. Food and beverage was outstanding. We did not do any formal dining. We ate at the pub (happy hour drinks and food) and had breakfast. Great little coffee 'clutch'/sandwich shop as well. Older overall build and our room had a little 'wear and tear' but nothing that was left in disrepair. The facility was very clean and grounds, pool area very beautifully maintained. Ample, proximate parking. We had an ocean side room. Our room was typical hotel style, tight bathroom, nice king bed with a balcony and excellent view. Location was great. We did an ocean shore walk which connected into a large park/boardwalk area. Would certainly recommend and consider a future stay if we were in the area.

Location and renovations were excellent. Grounds were well maintained and rooms were very clean and well appointed.

Check in - confirmation numbers did not match and the wrong name was populated from rooms leading to lots of confusion. Did not tell us about towels and pools, nor gave us a parking pass. I paid for all rooms, and checked out all the rooms. My family was hassled about paying when they left. Front desk staff tried but service was sub par. Wine served had been open too long and was soured.

The hotel was in a lovely position overlooking a large beach and the hotel gardens. We were greeted on arrival by Gregory and Suzanne on Reception who were amazing for the whole of our stay. Friendly, chatty and helpful, couldn't have asked for a better welcome. Our bedroom was a good size with a balcony overlooking the sea. The room facilities were good and the bed was huge. We used the hotel pool but you need your own padlock for the lockers (although Gregory found one for us as we don't carry a padlock with us on holiday!) We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were very good, and on the first night there was a pianist playing easy listening tunes in the background. We had to use the car to get into the main area of Parksville as it was difficult walking on the part of the beach where the hotel is situated, however, unless you're visiting for the lovely beaches and play areas, there isn't much to do in Parksville itself, and there isn't really a town centre.

Although we couldn't praise the reception staff highly enough, the restaurant staff were very different. Most of them were offhand, disinterested and not engaged with the guests. We were made to feel extremely uncomfortable on our first evening when our server Mikala attended our table complaining that the previous table had barely tipped her and she continued to complain about her job and various things, and how fed up she was of the new slow colleagues she was apparently training. We tried to engage her in conversation to try and break the negativity and atmosphere she was creating however noticed she was offhand and abrupt with other diners.

Balcony off of the room overlooks the ocean. Nice large balcony. We told Darren that we were celebrating our anniversary and he had champagne and bottled water sent to our room. We love swimming and they have 2 pools. One inside and one outside. The bed was really comfortable. we were happy that there was raw sugar and there were creamers in the fridge to add to our coffee.

We wish that they had robes in the rooms to wear to go to the swimming pools. We thought that the service in the restaurant was too slow for dinner and for breakfast. My water glass was empty so I started drinking my husbands glass of water before they filled the empty one. wanted fish and chips for dinner and they were completely out of white fish and it was early in the evening. It was around 5:30, early to be running out of white fish.

The location was awesome. Having two pools was great. The place was very clean and felt calm. Restaurant was value for money. My kid loved it. The beds were very comfy. And they had EV charging, which was a huge bonus.

It’s clearly an old hotel that has had a significant facelift. The place looks newish but the sound between floors is very loud. They must have forgotten to insulate between floors. We were on the second floor and I could accurately point out were the guy above us was in his room at any given time. The shower had very low pressure. They kept the old room doors and sanded down the sides so the light of a thousand suns beamed in from the hallway at 1 in the morning (when it woke me up) . They have ultra bright orange lights on the balcony that we could not turn off and that light seeped in around the “blackout blinds”.

The breakfasts were excellent in taste, portion size, and value for money. We had breakfast twice at the hotel and one delicious dinner (salmon and scallop linguine in white wine sauce was first rate). We enjoyed the views and the piano player while we ate at the restaurant. The original local artwork, which was for sale, was enjoyable to see as well. The views of the water, the comfort of the beds, the quiet, and the easy access to the beach and pools make guests want to return.

Shower was finicky to switch from tub filling mode to shower mode.

The location on the beach and within walking distance was excellent. The check in experience was very efficient and friendly. The hotel has two pools and a spa, as well as a nice fancy restaurant and a cafe for quick bites. There is plenty of free parking available for guests. The room was very comfortable and clean, and it has been renovated as it was much more modern and updated than the building, which does show its age a bit. We had a birthday dinner in the dining room and the ocean views, great food and good service made for a wonderful experience.

Easy to find, good parking (in off-season, at least). Lobby was clean and had a water bowl for the doggos which was a nice touch. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Nespresso and cream in the room - yes please! Very much appreciated. TV worked, wifi was included but we never used it so can’t speak to speeds. Rooms were fairly quiet even though the hotel was quite full. Couldn’t hear through walls but sometimes heard the odd door close. Lots of dogs but never heard any barking. Located right on the beach - gorgeous. Liked the little to-go coffee shop on site. All in all a pleasant stay.

Check in process was slow - unfortunately only one person checking people in and a lineup of at least 5 people so that took some time. it was later in the evening so I get having less staff but should have been at least some crossover or someone to support during surge times. Was assigned 3rd floor then informed we couldn’t have that room because dogs can only go to 2nd floor. So then had to wait some more for the room to be changed. On checkout, process was smooth. Requested emailed receipt. Should have gotten it printed because I still haven’t received a receipt but was charged at least $20+ more than what booking.com told me I’d be charged. Soooo not super happy about that.

Interaction with a very friendly and well-trained staff, and the unexpected 'class' of the property, both much greater than our expectations. Very clean and nicely appointed room with unobstructed ocean view. Lovely dining room, also with with superb view. Had the Bayside's version of a French 75 cocktail with dinner - and having had the real thing in the Hemmingway Bar at the Ritz Hotel in Paris, it compared very favourably ! For certain we will come again, and soon. Hint : be sure to request an 'Ocean Facing' room when booking, 3rd floor gives the best view.

Good location - simply stunning views from room and restaurant. Staff very nice and special mention to Jack who welcomed us on arrival and who we saw had to deal with a very drunk and abusive diner during our stay - which he dealt with in a very patient and professional manner. The restaurant contrary to other reviews on TA we had seen was just great - good food, excellent service and really no complaints. Perhaps in high season it's different as it has many covers but we were very pleased.
